Concord Prepares for Road Games Against Bluefield State, Wheeling, and West Liberty

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team plays three consecutive road matches starting with Bluefield State Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. followed by Mountain East Conference opponents Wheeling Friday at 7:00 p.m. and West Liberty Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

FLAWLESS HOME FLOOR
Following Thursday and Friday's sweeps of Salem and Point Park, CU moves to 8-0 in the Carter Center this season and have won nine-straight home games dating back to last fall. The last time the Mountain Lions won nine consecutive games at home came in 2016 when Concord won its last nine games to conclude the regular season before dropping its 2017 home opener. In its nine home victories in 2024, CU has won 27 of 33 sets played on Christie/Cox Court. Additionally, the Maroon and Gray are one win shy of tying their four-win mark over MEC opponents at home from 2023.
 
LOCK IT DOWN
Sophomore defensive specialist Allie Davis was voted MEC Defensive Player of the Week for her role in CU's three-sweep week. Davis, a native of Jonesburough, Tenn., racked up 46 digs, eight assists, and one service ace in victories over Glenville State, Salem, and Point Park. In those games, she averaged 5.1 digs per set, raising her season average to 4.76. Her mark of 4.76 digs per set ranks second in the league and places her in the top 50 across Division II. Also, Davis has logged nine 20-dig performances this season, surpassing her total of eight from her freshman campaign.
 
DOUBLE TROUBLE
In Friday's 3-0 home win over Point Park, sophomore outside hitter Meg Williams recorded her 11th double-double this season, tying her total from 2023. In her eight games played during the month of October, Williams has posted five double-doubles and has a double-double in four of her last five contests. The Shady Spring, W.Va. native hit for 11 kills and had 16 digs against Bluefield State in the Concord Classic in September. Friday, Williams will meet Wheeling's Riley Kindall. Kindall, a senior outside hitter, also has 11 double-doubles this season and has a double-double in four of her last five games. On Saturday, Williams matches up against West Liberty sophomore setter Dakoda Keni who has a team-best eight double-doubles.

SCOUTING THE BIG BLUES
After starting the season 2-12, BSU has won eight of its last nine games and is 6-1 against Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association competition. When the Big Blues and Mountain Lions met earlier this season in the Carter Center, senior outside hitter Jannice Lynch led Bluefield State with 11 kills and three aces. Lynch leads BSU averaging 3.08 kills per set with help from freshman setter Gabby Hale averaging 6.61 assists per set.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
WU posts the MEC's best hitting percentage, swinging a .253 mark this fall. Kindall leads the Cardinals' attack hitting for 3.47 kills per set while graduate setter Karly Niesen leads the MEC with 10.71 assists per set and ranks 23rd nationally. Wheeling sits atop the MEC North Division at 6-1 against league opponents.

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
The Hilltoppers present one of the MEC's best defensive units, putting up 2.06 blocks per set. Senior middle hitter Riley Cudnik ranks sixth in the conference blocking 1.0 attack per set and is hitting .327nthrough 77 sets played. WLU also has three players swinging for more than two kills per set led by freshman outside hitter Kyia White (2.31).
