CHARLOTTE – The Concord University men's cross country team finished third among Division II teams at the Royals XC Challenge hosted by Queens University at McAlpine Park Friday evening.
CU was seventh overall in the team race, but was third behind fellow Division II schools Catawba and Wingate. The Mountain Lions scored 184 points. Wingate was the meet winner with 48 points.
Sophomore
Logan Zuchelli ran a time of 24:37 for the 8,000-meter course which was good enough for 14
th overall and 10
th in the scoring. Sophomore
Braden Ward placed 37
th and 28
th in the scoring as he clocked 25:07.
Junior
Alex Irvin and senior
Ethan Board went back-to-back in 72
nd and 73
rd with 47 and 48 place points with times of 25:49 and 25:53, respectively. Rounding out the scoring runners for Concord was sophomore
Andrew Tickle who was 51
st in the scoring and 78
th overall. He ran 25:56. There were a total of 207 finishers in the race.
Sophomore
AJ Skeens (26:56) and senior Zack Wilson (26:59) were the sixth and seventh runners for CU while freshman
Brandon Canaday (27:02), freshman
Reese Hickey (27:15) and sophomore
Bramley Childress (27:27) rounded out the Concord field.
The individual winner in the meet was North Carolina Central's Meshack Kuyo as he was the only runner to break 24 minutes at 23:54.
The Mountain Lions host the Concord Alumni Invite Friday, October 18 at Pipestem State Park. It will be the final regular season meet of the fall.
