TAKEAWAYS
In Saturday's 81-62 win over Davis & Elkins, CU forced the Senators into 27 turnovers, including 13 steals. The Mountain Lions head into Wednesday's game against WLU swiping away at least 10 steals and forcing at least 20 turnovers in six straight games. In four of those six games, a Mountain Lion has recorded six steals. The latest recipient of a six-steal game was senior guard
Jaisah Smith against Davis & Elkins. Smith jumped into the top 10 at Concord with her 150
th steal Saturday. CU's full-court pressure has allowed three different players to lead CU in steals during that span, including graduate guard
Nakaila Gray recording a career-high six steals against Frostburg State.
DOING A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING
Junior guard
Skylar Davidson leads the Mountain Lions in assists per game (4.7) and steals per game (2.9), placing her in the top five in the Mountain East in both statistical categories. Her impact for CU this season extends much further than that, as she has piled up her stat line night in and night out. The Mullens, W.Va. native has recorded as least seven assists in three of her last four games played, led Concord in steals in three of the last six games, grabbed 10 rebounds twice this season, and is third on the team in scoring, averaging 9.8 points per game. Along with ranking in the top five in the MEC in assists and steals, Davidson's 1.6 assist-to-turnover ratio is second in the conference.
CRASHING THE GLASS
In recent history, one statistic has stood above the rest when Concord meets West Liberty: rebounding. The Mountain Lions have outrebounded the Hilltoppers in seven straight games dating back to the 2019-20 season. In those seven games, CU holds a 91-rebound advantage over WLU. Last season, the Mountain Lions outrebounded the Hilltoppers by seven in the Carter Center and by 12 in the West Liberty Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex. Sophomore forward
Abbie Smith had two double-doubles versus WLU last season with 10 points and 10 rebounds at home and another 16 points and 12 rebounds at West Liberty. Gray flirted with a double-double of eight points and eight rebounds against West Liberty at the Carter Center last season. She's coming off a 15-point, eight rebound performance in Saturday's win.
LONG RANGE SHOWDOWN
This season, Concord is holding opponents to just 28.2 percent (72-for-255) from three-point range, ranking first in the MEC. CU sits as one of two teams in the league allowing under 30 percent shooting from long range. West Liberty heads to Athens with a top three three-point offense in the MEC. WLU ranks first in the conference in three-pointers made while being third in the country in three pointers made and attempted per game. Senior guard Corinne Thomas (.370) and junior guard Karly McCutcheon (.339) both rank inside the top five in the conference in three-point percentage. The Mountain Lions have held four of the last six opponents under 30 percent from three-point range, and have accomplished the defensive metric seven times in 14 games this winter.
SETTLE THE SCORE
Heading into the 2022-23 season, CU carried a five-game win streak over West Liberty. The Hilltoppers bested the Mountain Lions in both meetings last winter. J. Smith led CU in scoring at the Carter Center, shooting 5-for-10 from the field on her way to 15 points. A. Smith boosted the Concord scoring efforts with her two double-doubles. West Liberty's McCutcheon and senior guard Grace Faulk scored in double figures in both meetings as well.
