WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against West Liberty Wednesday night in the first Mountain East Conference game of the season at the West Athletic Complex.
Two of the game's goals were scored in the opening eight minutes. The Mountain Lions (1-0-1, 0-0-1 MEC) jumped on West Liberty (1-1, 1-1 MEC) in third minute. With the ball loose just outside of the penalty area, junior midfielder
Fabian Amhof gathered the ball and ripped a shot that deflected off the goalkeeper's hand and into the back of the net.
The lead was short-lived, though, as the Hilltoppers converted a penalty kick in the eighth minute to even the game.
WLU was next to score as it went up 2-1 in the 27
th minute, and held the same margin at halftime.
With plenty of chances in the second half—Concord took nine shots after halftime—the Mountain Lions were able to knot the game in the 84
th minute. And CU was able to level the game playing a man down after a red card in the 75
th minute.

Shots were nearly even as WLU held an 18-17 edge. West Liberty also had a 10-9 advantage in corner kicks.

Keegan Grant stopped six shots in the contest.
Kelly led CU with four shots off the bench. Amhof and Nicholson each took three shots.
The Mountain Lions return home 3:30 p.m. Sunday to face Davis & Elkins.
