BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team's game against West Virginia Wesleyan finished in a 0-0 tie Wednesday afternoon in Mountain East Conference play at the YMCA Cline Complex.
The sides were even throughout with CU (1-0-2, 0-0-2 MEC) holding a 9-7 edge in shots. West Virginia Wesleyan (3-1-1, 3-0-1 MEC) took one more shot on goal than Concord, 4-3. And both sides had five corner kicks apiece.
Sophomore midfielder
Nick Lowery had the game's first shot in the first 90 seconds that produced a corner kick.
Junior midfielder
Fabian Amhof took two of his three shots for the game in the first half—with attempts in the 23
rd and 33
rd minutes.
Redshirt freshman midfielder
Matthew Sale had a shot saved in the 50
th minute, and an attempt by junior midfielder
Andre Nicholson was turned aside less than a minute later.
Sophomore defender
Kai Forsyth had the two best chances for Concord down the stretch of the game, as he his shot in the 73
rd minute was saved. He also had a shot from a set piece that missed the target in the 86
th minute.
Amhof and Forsyth combined to take five of CU shots, and were the only Mountain Lions with multiple shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Keegan Grant saved four shots for his second shutout of the season.
Concord heads to Wheeling 1:00 p.m. Sunday for an MEC contest.
