ELKINS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team scored four goals in the first half and cruised to a 5-1 win at Nuttall Field in a Mountain East Conference game Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore forward
Caitlin Webster got the scoring underway in the 16
th minute. After a turnover in the midfielder, graduate forward
Alexa Todd found graduate midfielder
Michelle Brogden who one-touched a pass to Webster. And she was able to bury her third goal in the last two games.
Brogden only needed two minutes to double the Concord (2-1-1, 2-0 MEC) lead as she took a pass from sophomore midfielder
Reeanna Cook near the top of the 18-yard box and fired in her second goal of the year.
Cook scored in the 24
th minute after a corner kick was unable to be cleared away cleanly by the Davis & Elkins (0-4-1, 0-2-1 MEC) defense.
The final first-half goal came in the 30
th minute as junior forward
Nora Voisey found the back of the net from a sharp angle right after receiving a pass in stride form Brogden.
Freshman midfielder
Wilma Hedenberg recorded her first career goal in the 73
rd minute after another errant clearance from D&E.
The Senators did get on the board in the 82
nd minute with a penalty kick.
Brogden and Cook both finished with three points.
CU owned a decisive 26-5 advantage in shot. Brogden took a game-high six shots. Junior forward
Kylene Franklin and Voisey both tallied four shots off the bench.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Sarah Pattillo made two saves in the contest.
Concord remains on the road for a 4:00 p.m. start Wednesday against Charleston.
