WISE, Va. – The Concord University volleyball team defeated both Johnson C. Smith and Mountain East Conference foe Davis & Elkins 3-0 in the final matches of the season-opening Cavalier Classic on Friday at the Prior Center.
Match 1: Concord 3 – Johnson C. Smith 0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-21)
Set 1
The Mountain Lions (4-0) jumped ahead quickly scoring eight of the games fist 10 points. Four kills by freshman outside hitter
Chloe Thompson and eight digs from freshman defensive specialist
Allie Davis led the way to a 25-11 victory in favor of CU.
Set 2
Concord started fast again, capitalizing on a 10-1 scoring run to bring the set to 17-4. Freshman setter
Declyn Tooze collected thre aces in the set, as CU would take a 2-0 lead on a set final of 25-10.
Set 3
CU pulled away late to win the match-deciding set by a final score of 25-21. Junior defensive specialist

Meg Williams, and senior middle hitter
Csayjah Whitelow all contributed kills en route to a Concord victory.
Match Stats
The Mountain Lions hit .245 as a team with 48 digs, six aces, and five blocks in the match. Senior middle hitter
Kyndra Pilant and Williams both led the team with eight kills. Tooze and freshman setter
Paige Richmond totaled 16 and 15 assists, respectively. Both setters also combined for five of six team aces. Davis totaled 23 digs on the match, the most on either team.
Match 2: Concord 3 – Davis & Elkins 0 (25-12, 25-16, 27-25)
Set 1
CU would be tied in the early goings of the first set 4-4 when kills from freshman right side NatalieBrown and Williams would see Concord grab a 11-6 lead. Williams would total seven kills in the set as there was no looking back for the Mountain Lions in a 25-12 set win.
Set 2
Like the first set, both teams traded points until a pair of kills from Pilant put CU ahead for good. Brown collected the final kill on the sheet to give the Mountain Lions a two-set advantage.
Set 3
The third set would see the Senators pull ahead early, but senior right side
Reese Turner and Thompson would help erase a six-point deficit to tie the game at 19-19. Back-to-back-to-back kills from
Meg Williams would seal the deal in a 27-25 Mountain Lion victory.
Match Stats
Williams led all players with 18 kills, as well as 10 digs on her way to her first career double-double. Davis had the most digs for the Mountain Lions with 16. Junior middle hitter
Csayjah Whitelow and Turner provided support around the net with two blocks each. Richmond picked up 20 assists, bringing her season total to 91 through four games.
The Mountain Lions begin their season 4-0 for the first time since 2003 and is their best start since the 2009 season when they started 5-1. CU puts their unblemished mark up against Emory & Henry 6:00 p.m. Tuesday in the home opener.
