ERIE, Pa. – The Concord University women's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against Gannon in a non-conference game at McConnell Family Stadium Thursday evening.
The Mountain Lions (0-0-1) struck first as a through ball from graduate defender
Olivia Bekeleski connected with graduate midfielder
Michelle Brogden inside the penalty area, and Brogden was able to put away the goal in the low left corner in the eighth minute.
The goal advantage would hold up in the first 45 minutes as freshman goalkeeper
Kayla Garza made four saves in the first half.
The shutout was broken up in the 67
th minute as Gannon (0-0-1) found the back of the net.
CU hit the post twice in the later stages of the second half, as it was the Golden Knights that took the next lead as an errant clearance on a free kick turned into an own goal in the 83
rd minute.
The Mountain Lions, however, were able to respond quickly as junior forward
Sydney Tucker found herself running with junior midfielder
Leah Fleming in a two-on-one situation. Tucker was able to bury her first career goal just 45 seconds after the own goal.
Concord had a chance with Brogden having a shot saved in the 88
th minute. Garza was also pressed into making one of her seven saves in the 88
th minute to keep the game square at 2-2.
All three shots for Brogden were on frame. Fleming tallied two shots. CU was outshot 18-7 in the game.
The Mountain Lions face nationally-ranked, 19
th-rated Kutztown 3:00 p.m. Saturday in a neutral-site meeting at Gannon.
