UNLIKELY SUSPECTS
Graduate outfielder
Josh Adkins hit his team-best fourth home run of the season as he homered in back-to-back games versus UVa.-Wise over the weekend. The Nitro, West Virginia native entered the season having only hit four career home runs. Adkins is in a tie for second in the MEC in home runs and his 12 RBI is second in the conference. Adkins is riding a seven-game hitting streak heading into Wednesday. Junior infielder
Daniel Layne starts Wednesday hitting .400 and has hit safely in five consecutive games. The Dobson, North Carolina native hit just .292 a season ago and had just 26 hits. Layne already has 18 hits this season.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
After 14 straight games at home to begin the season, CU makes its first road trip of the season. The 2023 season is similar to last spring when the Maroon and Gray played nine of their first 10 games at home before a 10-game road trip in the middle of March. After Wednesday's game, Concord returns home to play Frostburg State March 18 in the first Mountain East Conference games of the season. Last season's first road game was an 8-4 win at Bluefield State. Junior infielder
Zack Saryeldin had three hits and three RBI, including a home run. Adkins and junior infielder
Chris Satcher both drove in two runs.
REPEAT PERFORMANCE
The Mountain Lions seek a third straight win over Wingate when the teams square off Wednesday. After dropping the first game of a three-game series to begin the 2020 season, Concord won the final two games at WU, 5-1 and 12-11. Four current Mountain Lions appeared versus Wingate three years ago: Adkins, junior infielder
Michael Dupont, junior pitcher
Andrew Neff and senior pitcher
Nick Sanso. Sanso was the winning pitcher in the 12-11 contest. Adkins had a pair of hits and a pair of runs scored in the series, including a double in game three. When facing 14
th-ranked Wingate Wednesday afternoon, CU is also seeking its second-straight regular season win over a nationally-ranked foe after knocking off 23
rd-rated Mercyhurst last season, 5-3.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Wingate goes into Wednesday having lost a weekend series to one of Concord's mutual opponents, Emory & Henry. The Bulldogs hit just .289 as a team, but the pitching staff is limiting teams to .232. Seaver King already has five home runs and 22 RBI in 18 games. Brett Adams is hitting an even .350 with three home runs and 19 RBI. WU swept MEC foe Charleston February 9-11. The Bulldogs are two years removed from winning a national championship.
