ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team dropped a pair of games to UVa.-Wise Saturday afternoon, 9-6 and 13-4, in non-conference action at Anderson Field.
Concord is now 4-8 this season while UVa.-Wise is 6-12.
Game 1: UVa.-Wise 9 – Concord 6
An early pitching dual turned into a slugfest late as the Cavaliers outlasted CU.

Hunter Steel got the Mountain Lions on the board in the second inning with a single into right field as graduate outfielder
Kyle Keenan came around to score. Concord added two more runs in the third inning to give a comfortable cushion to junior pitcher
Andrew Neff.
UVa.-Wise would go on to score the next two runs in the game with a run in the fourth and a solo home run in the sixth. Down to their final three outs, the Cavaliers responded with eight runs in the seventh.
Down 9-3, Concord had an answer as graduate outfielder
Josh Adkins and sophomore infielder/pitcher
MJ Hunter homered in the seventh. Junior infielder
Daniel Layne added an RBI double to get CU within 9-6.
CU able to get to the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but UVa.-Wise induced a groundout to end the game.
Adkins, Keenan and Layne all had two hits.
Neff struck out 10 batters over six innings as he gave up two runs on seven hits, receiving a no decision. Keenan (0-1) was the loser in relief.
Game 2: UVa.-Wise 13 – Concord 4
Two big innings from UVa.-Wise was too much for the Mountain Lions to overcome.
Keenan got Concord off to a fast start once again as he blasted a two-run homer to score Adkins in the first inning. After the Cavaliers responded with a pair of runs in the second inning, Adkins untied the game with his third home run in the last four games to push CU out to a 3-2 edge.
A Layne RBI triple plated junior infielder
Chris Satcher and doubled the Concord lead in the fifth inning. But, UVa.-Wise overtook the Mountain Lions in the sixth with six runs, and the Cavaliers added five more in the seventh.
Adkins had the solo home run and was on base three times. Keenan drove in two runs.
Junior pitcher
Eddie Blake (1-3) tossed 5.2 innings as he struck out two and gave up five earned runs.
Concord and UVa.-Wise conclude the weekend series with a doubleheader 12:00 p.m. Sunday.
