BATS GET HOT
After scoring seven runs in two games in a doubleheader split with Notre Dame Sunday afternoon, the Mountain Lions found their rhythm at the plate in a sweep at Alderson Broaddus, 13-4 and 15-4, Monday. CU pounded out 15 hits in each game against AB which was the tied for the third-most hits in a game this season. In game one, sophomore utility
MJ Hunter and junior infielder
Zack Saryeldin led the offense with three hits apiece. Hunter and Saryeldin's momentum carried over to game two as Saryeldin became one of three players in program history to homer twice in the same seven-inning game, joining former teammate
Anthony Stehlin from two years ago at West Virginia Wesleyan and Trevor Wiersma at UVa.-Wise in 2018. Hunter doubled twice in game at AB and drove in four runs as Concord's offense scored the second-most runs of the season in game two. CU's 7-1 start to MEC play is the best start since 2018 when it also started 7-1.
GOOD ON GOOD
On Saturday, the best offense in the MEC in terms of batting average squares off against one of the best pitching staffs in the conference when Wheeling comes to Anderson Field. The Mountain Lions are the only team in the league batting over .300 as they come in at .304. Junior outfielder
D.J. Christian Jr. leads the conference in average (.422) while graduate outfielder
Josh Adkins checks in fourth at .365. Junior infielder
Daniel Layne is just outside the top 10 at .348. CU is second in the conference in doubles (47). Layne is tied for fourth with eight. Wheeling's team ERA of 5.44 is third in the MEC behind Charleston (4.38) and West Virginia State (4.97). Individually, Kody McCarley has an ERA of 1.41 in 38.1 innings while totaling 47 strikeouts, second in the MEC, behind Concord senior
Andrew Neff with 50. McCarley is one of two players in the conference with an ERA under two.
KEEP IT ROLLING
CU split on the road with Wheeling last season as it lost 16-1 before bounding back with a 7-5 win in eight innings. The Mountain Lions picked up a doubleheader sweep at West Liberty with 4-2 and 8-0 wins. Sophomore pitcher/infielder
Rylee Nicholas dazzled in game two as he pitched five shutout innings, coming up with seven strikeouts, and only giving up two hits. Christian supported the CU offense with three hits and two RBI. Neff was sharp in game one as he went the distance, giving up five hits and two runs while striking out six. The Fredericksburg, Virginia native needs 11 strikeouts to amass 200 for his career. Neff's career strikeout total was adjusted at the beginning of the week due to a statistical error by the CU SID office.

McCarley has already been the MEC Pitcher of the Week three times this season. McCarley has struck out seven or more in four of his six starts, including games of 11 and 13 strikeouts. WU's offense is only hitting .258, but Braden Killens is one of the most dangerous hitters in the MEC with four home runs and 19 RBI in 18 games.

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
Like their northern panhandle counterparts, West Liberty rides a four-game winning streak into the weekend after wins over Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Wesleyan. The Hilltoppers sit atop the MEC North Standings, but the six teams in the division are separated by just three games. On the mound, Justin Pennybacker has tossed two complete games this season and has 29 strikeouts in 31 innings. Veteran outfielder Ty Helmke leads the WLU offense with a .326 average to go with four home runs and 13 RBI.
