ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team heads out on the road for its first Mountain East Conference away contests of the season 1:00 p.m. Sunday against Notre Dame and 1:00 p.m. Monday versus Alderson Broaddus in two doubleheaders.

HOT START
With two sweeps over Frostburg State and Fairmont State to start the MEC slate, the Mountain Lions are off to their best start since 2018 when they started the conference portion of the schedule with seven straight wins. Graduate outfielder

D.J. Christian Jr. led the way for the CU offense in the four games as all three hit at lest .400. Brady recorded Concord's walkoff hit in a 4-3 win over Fairmont State to conclude the opening of MEC play. Junior pitchers
Eddie Blake and
Andrew Neff were sharp on the mound as the duo combined for 16 strikeouts in 15.2 innings. And both sported an ERA of 2.25 or lower over the weekend. Neff enters the weekend needing seven strikeouts to become the fifth player in program history with 200 strikeouts.
EVENLY MATCHED
Dating back to the 2018 season, Concord and Notre Dame have split three of their last four doubleheaders with NDC winning both in 2021. After a tough 6-3 loss to open the doubleheader last season at home, CU bounced back with a 10-3 win in game two to split with the Falcons. Graduate outfielder
Kyle Keenan drove in four runs in the nightcap to pace the Maroon and Gray offense. In four career games, junior infielder
Zack Saryeldin is 6-for-14 with three runs scored and three doubles. Neff picked up the win on the mound versus Notre Dame last season as he tossed a complete game and struck out six while allowing three runs on six hits.
OFFENSE APLENTY
Concord completed a sweep of Alderson Broaddus last season at Anderson Field with 20 runs in the nightcap in a 16-run win. The 20 runs were one of five times that the Maroon and Gray scored 20 or more last season. Keenan continued his hot weekend with a four-hit, five-RBI performance. Junior infielder
Michael Dupont added four hits and three more RBI. Fellow junior infielder
Chris Satcher drove in three runs. The game two outburst came after the Mountain Lions needed five runs in their final at-bat to rally for an 8-6 win over AB. Adkins and Saryeldin both had two hits and combined for five RBI with Saryeldin homering. The sweep over Alderson Broaddus last season pushed Concord's record to 6-2 in the MEC.

SCOUTING THE FALCONS
Notre Dame picked up its first win of the season as it started MEC play with a 7-1 win at Davis & Elkins. The Falcons were clipped in three one-run games thereafter with a 3-2 loss versus D&E and a pair of 5-4 loss at West Virginia Wesleyan. Former Cleveland Indians pitcher Len Barker, who threw a perfect game in 1981 against Toronto, is in his 12
th season as NDC's head coach. Max Schweiger is hitting .333 and has five RBI. Johnny Anservitz has racked up 15 strikeouts in 17 innings on the mound.

SCOUTING THE BATTLERS
Alderson Broaddus has already matched last year's win total after going 7-37 in 2022. The Battlers are led offensively by Chandler Ballenger who hits at a .389 clip. He has three home runs and 15 RBI. On the mound, Cooper Cole is 2-1 with 22 strikeouts in 18 innings while sporting a 4.50 ERA. Cole was on the mound for AB's lone MEC win a 7-0 shutout at West Virginia Wesleyan where he held WVWC to one hit while striking out eight.
