ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team plays the first four of 32 Mountain East Conference games when it welcomes Frostburg State and Fairmont State to Anderson Field, 1:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. Monday in a pair of doubleheaders.

MIRROR IMAGE
Concord and Frostburg State both enter the weekend with almost an identical batting average. Concord's .282 average is third in the MEC while Frostburg State is right behind in fourth with an average of .279. FSU does slug slightly better than the Mountain Lions with a .452 percentage compared to CU at .431. Concord has pounded out 29 doubles which is first in the conference. Junior outfielder D.J. Christian is tied for first in the conference in doubles with six. Graduate outfielder Josh Adkins has five doubles so far this spring. Six different players have at least three doubles for the Maroon and Gray. Frostburg State has done its damage with the long ball as the Bobcats' 18 home runs lead the conference.

FINDING A GROOVE
After splitting the season series with Frostburg State last season, CU handed the Bobcats a 10-4 loss in the MEC Tournament last season. And the Mountain Lions' also took out Fairmont State in the conference postseason with a 12-2 victory—that was after Fairmont State won both over Concord during the regular season. Adkins, graduate outfielder Kyle Keenan and junior infielder Daniel Layne all had at least two hits versus Fairmont State. Adkins and Layne both drove in two runs while Adkins stole three bases versus the Fighting Falcons. Junior infielder Zack Saryeldin collected three RBI in the win over Frostburg State in the postseason. Junior pitchers Eddie Blake and Andrew Neff were responsible for the wins in the MEC Tournament as the duo combined for 15 strikeouts.

THE TIME IS NOW
A few Mountain Lions enjoyed added success during the MEC schedule last season. Saryeldin (.419) and Adkins (.414) both batted over .400 in conference games in 2022. Keenan just missed the mark as he it .394 and had 37 of his 48 RBI in the 32-game conference slate. Neff started the MEC portion of the schedule by winning his first six starts, including at Frostburg State April 2. Neff rang up four strikeouts over six innings. Junior infielder Chris Satcher hit eight of his 10 home runs in MEC games. And in just 34 at-bats in conference play, junior infielder Michael Dupont collected 13 RBI. Satcher had three hits in CU's 7-5 regular-season win against Frostburg State while Adkins and Saryeldin each had two.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Frostburg State starts MEC play trying to snap a three-game losing streak after getting swept by Lee in Tennessee over the weekend. Mikey Guy and Trevor Jones have both tallied 12 RBI. FSU sports the top team ERA in the MEC at 4.46. Max Proctor has an ERA of 2.16 and has 24 strikeouts in 16.2 innings. Jacob Stretch has piled up 22 strikeouts in 12 innings.

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING FALCONS
Since defeating Salem 4-3 to start the season, Fairmont State has lost 12 straight games. The Fighting Falcons face Glenville State Saturday before traveling to Athens. Noah Canterbury leads the team with six RBI. Logan McClure and Jacob Young have both logged 16 strikeouts, and are averaging right around a strikeout per inning.
