SUPER SIX SENIORS
Prior to the game, head coach
Todd May and the program recognize six seniors: guard
Cade Fix, forward
Jake Hamilton, guard
Ethan Heller, guard
Jaguar Jackson, forward
Jevon Laidler and forward
Da'Vion Moore. Fix's best game at CU came against Glenville State last season when he hit four crucial three-pointers in an 86-82 win. Hamilton has played in 26 career games at Concord, including seeing action versus West Virginia State Wednesday. Heller, already a 1,000-point scorer, is also top 10 in program history with 191 three-pointers. He is 28
th on the CU scoring list (1,125). Jackson has seen the floor in 25 games. Laider has put together his best stretch of basketball as a Mountain Lion over the last couple weeks, averaging 15.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game over his last six games and is shooting 54.1 percent (33-for-61) from the floor. Laidler's career high in points (25) came last season versus GSU. Moore has been on the floor in 63 career games and has three career double-doubles.
ROUNDING INTO FORM
In Wednesday's 90-85 los to West Virginia State, Concord received the best game from freshman forward
Ayden Ince in his young career. The Beckley, West Virginia native tossed in a career-best 10 points to go with a career-high seven rebounds while playing 22 minutes off the bench. Averaging just 2.9 points per game, Ince has scored 30 points in his last five games. In his fifth start of the season, sophomore forward
Amare Smith tossed in 17 points versus West Virginia State—one off his season high—to go with six rebounds. Smith also played a career-high 32 minutes.  To conclude the regular season last year, Smith tallied a double-double versus Glenville State with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
HIDDEN POINTS
For the fifth straight game, CU outscored the opposition in second-chance points as it held a 20-8 advantage versus West Virginia State. Overall, the Maroon and Gray has only been outscored twice in second-chance points since the calendar turned to 2023, at Charleston and at home against Wheeling. Wednesday night was just the fourth time this season that Concord has posted 20 or more second-chance points. The Mountain Lions had 21 second-chance points at Davis & Elkins last Saturday. Earlier this season at Glenville State, the teams washed each other out in second-chance points as CU held a slim 11-10 edge. Concord (14.0) and Glenville State (13.5) lead the MEC in offensive rebounds per game.
SENDING OFF THE SENIORS
Winning on Senior Day has become a tradition for the Mountain Lions. Dating back to the mid-2000s, Concord has never lost on Senior Day. Last February, CU secured an 88-78 win over Davis & Elkins behind 28 points and 11 rebounds from Smith. After not having any seniors in 2021, the Maroon and Gray defeated West Virginia Wesleyan 98-83 as Heller was one of five Concord players in double figures with 11 points. The Mountain Lions also look to secure their eighth home win of the season which would match the last year's team, the 2018-19 squad and the 2015-16 team for the most home victories dating back to 2014-15 season when CU went 11-2 at the Carter Center.
REBOUNDING RAHAMA
After missing the West Virginia State game, graduate guard
Lual Daniel Rahama is expected back in the lineup for Concord Saturday. The Newport News, Virginia native had one of his best games in a CU uniform when the Mountain Lions and Glenville State matched up January 21, going for 23 points and 16 rebounds. It was the second of a three-game stretch for Rahama where he had 16 rebounds. Rahama enters Saturday needing eight rebounds to secure averaging a double-double for the regular season as he sits at 262 rebounds. In the nine previous years of the MEC, at least one player has averaged a double-double for the season with Fairmont State's Seth Younkin being the lone player to pull off the feat last year.
REBOUNDING TUSSLE
Not only is Saturday a matchup of the top two offensive rebounding teams in the conference, but also the top two overall rebounding teams. Glenville State (+5.7) and Concord (+5.3) are the only two teams in the MEC with a rebounding margin greater than +5.0. And both are in the top 30 nationally in rebounding margin: the Pioneers, 24
th, and Concord, 30
th. In January, CU was outrebounded 42-30—the only time this winter the Maroon and Gray has been outrebounded by double digits. Saturday's game features five of the top 18 rebounders in the MEC: Rahama (first/10.1), GSU's Freddie Word (third/7.8), Harrison Eghan (sixth/7.3), Jacquez Yow (15
th/6.1) and Laidler (18
th/5.6). Rahama, Eghan and Yow are three of the five players in the MEC averaging at least 2.5 offensive rebounds per game.
