SERIES HISTORY: First Ever Meeting

CONCORD AT A GLANCE
Overall Record: 4-2
Home Record: 4-2
Away Record: 0-0

THE TREND CONTINUES
After junior outfielder D.J. Christian and senior catcher Hunter Steel had impressive weekends from the bottom of the order against Pitt-Johnstown, sophomore infielder Brendan Brady came to the forefront of the production from the bottom of the batting lineup Wednesday versus Bluefield State in a 10-3 win. Before Wednesday's 3-for-4 game with three RBI, the Sunrise, Florida native had gone just 2-of-9 in his first handful of games as a Mountain Lion. And Layne picked up right where he left off versus UPJ by stringing four hits together, a career high, against Bluefield State. The Dobson, North Carolina native is third on the team in batting average at .474. Christian leads CU in batting (.611) while junior infielder Chris Satcher is second (.500).

IMPRESSIVE DEBUT
Freshman pitcher Evan Hosey worked a scoreless inning over the weekend versus Pitt-Johnstown. However, in his first career start Wednesday, the Colorado Springs, Colorado native was sharp. Hosey fanned eight BSU hitters over five innings as he scattered five hits and allowed two runs. The eight strikeouts were the second most for a CU pitcher this season behind senior pitcher Andrew Neff's nine strikeouts versus Bluefield State February 11. The eight punchouts by Hosey were the most for a Concord player making their first career start since Spencer Hoyt with 10 at Ohio Valley April 2019. Speaking of Neff, he picked up his first career save Wednesday by tossing 1.1 scoreless innings.

NO BREAKS
Approximately 48 hours removed from their win over Bluefield State, the Mountain Lions take on an Ashland team that made the NCAA Tournament last season with a record of 35-21. The Eagles are just four years removed from making the College World Series. The last time CU played a team the caliber of AU was last season when it faced nationally-ranked Mercyhurst—a 5-3 win over the 23rd-ranked Lakers. At some point this weekend, junior Eddie Blake will pitch for Concord. Last season versus Mercyhurst, Blake tossed 7.2 innings with four strikeouts and two earned runs against him. Graduate outfielder Kyle Keenan, junior infielder Zack Saryeldin and Satcher all homered in the game.
