ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team lost 16-7 to Pitt-Johnstown Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game at Anderson Field.
Concord (3-2) made a run at the Mountain Cats (2-1) in the middle innings, but was unable to match Pitt-Johnstown on the scoreboard in the seventh and eighth.
Down 6-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, a single from sophomore infielder/pitcher
Brendan Brady was followed by a two-run home run from senior catcher
Hunter Steel—his first career home run.
UPJ extended the lead out to 7-3 in the top of the sixth, though, Concord had another answer as junior infielder
Chris Satcher drove in fellow junior infielder
Zack Saryeldin with a base hit to left field. But, it was close as CU would get.
Pitt-Johnstown scored three times in the seventh and plated four runs in the eight. The Mountain Lions did tally a run on an RBI double from junior outfielder
D.J. Christian in the seventh, and manufactured two runs in the eight.
CU's first run came courtesy of Christian who singled to begin the day offensively before racing home on an error in the outfield in the first.
Christian and Satcher were both 3-for-4 on the day with an RBI. Satcher recorded two doubles. Steel and graduate outfielder
Kyle Keenan each had two hits with Steel driving in two runs.
Junior pitcher
Eddie Blake (1-1) was the pitcher of record as he allowed four earned runs over five innings and struck out four.
The Mountain Lions hosts Bluefield State 12:00 p.m. Wednesday for a single, nine-inning game.
