MIDSEASON FORM
CU opened the spring with a doubleheader sweep of Bluefield State as junior pitcher
Eddie Blake and senior pitcher
Andrew Neff shined in their starts. Neff was named the Mountain East Conference Pitcher of the Week and Atlantic Regional Pitcher of the Week after tossing five innings and allowing just one run on four hits and totaling nine strikeouts. It took Neff's career strikeout total to 149. And it marked the sixth time in his career with at least nine strikeouts in a start. Blake also surrendered a single run over five innings as he racked up five strikeouts. Dating back to last season, Neff is 10-2 in his last 12 starts. Blake is 5-1 in his last six starts. Sophomore infielder/pitcher
Rylee Nicholas came in on relief for Blake and recorded his second career save by tossing two scoreless innings in the 2-1 win.
SITUATIONAL HITTING
The Mountain Lions plated just seven runs in two games versus Bluefield State last weekend. Junior infielder
Chris Satcher had the biggest hit of the series with a three-run double in game one to untie a 1-1 deadlock in the fifth inning. He had two doubles in the doubleheader and was named MEC Player of the Week after going 3-for-6. Last season, Satcher tied for the team lead in RBI (48) with graduate outfielder
Kyle Keenan after he hit .491 with runners in scoring position—90 points higher than his overall average. In last year's three-game series with Pitt-Johnstown, Concord hit .420 (21-for-50) with runners in scoring position.
SERIES SPLIT
In a rare occurrence, the Mountain Lions and UPJ split a three-game series last season at Anderson Field as Pitt-Johnstown won the first game, CU won the third game and game two finished in an 11-11 tie. The middle game was called due to darkness. Junior infielder
Zack Saryeldin went 8-for-14 in the series with a home run, seven RBI and four doubles, including six RBI in the second game. Junior infielder
Michael Dupont had five RBI in the opening game of the series, a 26-14 Pitt-Johnstown win. Saryeldin and Satcher each had three hits in a 9-7 win for CU. From the 2020 season, graduate outfielder
Josh Adkins had a walk-off hit in Concord's 7-6 11-inning victory versus UPJ.
