ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team defeated Davis & Elkins 3-0 in a Mountain East Conference game Monday evening inside the Carter Center.

CU (16-13, 6-8 MEC) took its first lead of the night on a freshman outside hitter

Csayjah Whitelow and Brown extended Concord's lead 6-4. After D&E (1-25, 0-14 MEC) tied the frame 11-11, the Mountain Lions went on an 8-1 run that included a kill from Williams and service aces from senior middle hitter

Shannon Phipps collected a kill as CU took an early 4-2 lead. Another kill from Phipps, as well as kills from Thompson and Brown brought the Mountain Lions lead to 12-5. Freshman setter
Paige Richmond served back-to-back aces to cap off a 6-0 Concord run, taking the lead to 15-5. Freshman outside hitter
Emma Boland picked up an ace while Phipps added another kill to see CU's lead grow to 21-7. A kill from Thompson gave the Mountain Lions a 2-0 lead in the game, 25-11.

A block headed by Whitelow and Williams gave CU a two-point advantage, 4-2. A trio of Senators attack errors extended the lead 9-5. Freshman middle hitter
Jasmine Anderson rattled off back-to-back kills to make the score 13-7. Anderson's third kill of the set brought the score to 17-10. Tooze's second ace in the contest gave the Mountain Lions a 20-12 advantage. Freshman outside hitter
Kaileigh Hodges smashed a kill in the closing moments of the game as Concord swept Davis & Elkins, 25-16.

Match Stats
With the victory over the Senators, CU clinched a winning season for the first time since 2016. Thompson led all players in the match with nine kills. Pilant, Williams, and Brown all collected four kills each. Williams also added three aces to her stat line. Whitelow, Phipps, and Anderson shared three kills each with Whitelow also swatting a game-high six blocks. Freshman defensive specialist
Allie Davis hauled in a game-high 15 digs and assisted on two Mountain Lions points. Tooze led Concord with 16 assists and two aces, while Richmond tied for the team-lead with three aces paired with 12 assists.

The Mountain Lions finish the regular season Friday on the road in the Waco Center as they face Glenville State at 7:00 p.m.
