BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Sophomore midfielder
Tomas Kelly of the Concord University men's soccer team has been pegged as the Mountain East Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Kelly, a native of Manchester, England, tallied six points during the week for the Mountain Lions with two goals and two assists. He helped CU go 2-0 with wins over Wheeling and Frostburg State.
He began his week with Concord's first goal in a 3-2 win over Wheeling. In the final 10 minutes of regulation, Kelly assisted on what would be the game-winning goal with a free kick from midfield.
Against Frostburg State Saturday, Kelly had the middle goal in a 3-0 win with a 29
th-minute strike off another free kick. He later assisted on a 56
th-minute goal in CU's commanding win over the Bobcats.
Kelly is the second straight Mountain Lion to earn MEC Player of the Week after goalkeeper
Keegan Grant received MEC Defensive Player of the Week after a shutout of Notre Dame last Sunday.
Charleston defender Juan Hermoso was the MEC Defensive Player of the Week.
Concord, unbeaten in its last four games, travels to Salem 7:30 p.m. Wednesday looking for the season sweep of the Tigers.
