Concord Drops Road Game Versus Fairmont State

FAIRMONT, W.Va. - The Concord University volleyball team was defeated 3-1 by Fairmont State in a Mountain East conference matchup inside Joe Retton Arena Friday evening. 
Final Score: Fairmont State 3, Concord 1 (25-18, 22-25, 26-24, 25-18)
Set 1
Freshmen outside hitters Chloe Thompson and Meg Williams got the scoring started for CU (14-12 4-7 MEC) as they added kills to take a 2-1 lead. A quick run from the Falcons (14-12 7-4 MEC) was answered by senior middle hitter Kyndra Pilant as she cut the Mountain Lion deficit to 14-8. Back-to-back kills from Williams brought the scoring to 19-12. Freshman setter Paige Richmond added an ace late in the set as FSU took a 1-0 lead 25-18. 
Set 2
CU jumped out to a 4-0 lead behind three Falcons attack errors and a kill from Pilant. Two more kills from Pilant gave Concord the lead back 7-6. Freshman right side Natalie Brown collected her first kill of the game as CU held the advantage 11-10. A service ace from freshman setter Declyn Tooze capped a 4-0 CU run as they tied the scoring 1-1, 25-22. 
Set 3
Two kills from Pilant and one kill from Williams gave Concord a 4-2 lead early in the third frame. The Mountain Lions extended their lead 8-5 on kills from Tooze and Brown. Pilant answered FSU's run to hold a three-point lead 16-13. Williams, Thompson, Brown, and Pilant swung for kills in the latter half of the set as Fairmont State completed the comeback, 26-24. 
Set 4
Richmond began the set with an ace as CU opened another lead 4-3. Assisted blocks from Pilant, freshman outside hitter Meagan Poticher, Brown, and senior middle hitter Csayjah Whitelow extended Concord's lead 7-5. Poticher and Pilant picked up another block as FSU's scoring run was cut to 13-11. Two kills from Thompson and an ace from Richmond finished the scoring for the Mountain Lions as FSU took the set and the match, 25-18. 
Match Stats
Pilant led all players in the game with 19 kills paired with six total blocks. As a team, CU racked up 14 total blocks in the contest. Whitelow led the team in blocks as she swatted away eight Falcons attack attempts while Poticher notched a new career-high six total blocks. Williams picked up her ninth double-double of the season as she went for 10 kills and a new career-high 19 digs. Richmond finished with 23 assists, 11 digs (tying her career-high), and five aces. Tooze added 18 assists, four digs and one ace. Freshman defensive specialist Allie Davis finished one dig shy of a 20-dig performance with 19. 
The Mountain Lions are back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Buckhannon, W.Va. to face West Virginia Wesleyan at 7:00 p.m. in the Rockefeller Center.
