INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to West Virginia State Sunday night at Dickerson Stadium in a Mountain East Conference matchup.
WVSU (8-5-2, 7-3-2 MEC) scored two goals in the opening 20 minutes to take the early lead.
The Mountain Lions (9-4-2, 8-3-1 MEC) had an 8-6 edge in shots in the first 45 minutes, but was unable to fine the back of the net until the final 15 minutes of the game.

Katie Garratt fired a shot past West Virginia State goalkeeper Lauren Galindo in the 77
th minute as freshman defense
Lotte Fasen recorded her first career collegiate assist on Garratt's third goal of the fall.
Garratt had another shot on target in the 80
th minute that was steered away by Galindo. Graduate forward
Alexa Todd put a shot on goal in the 85
th minute, but was turned away. CU cracked a shot wide in the 87
th minute, and junior defender
Emma Ring got a shot off just ahead of the final buzzer that was left of the goal.
Concord held a 19-8 advantage in total shots in the game with eight on target while West Virginia State tallied four shots on goal.
Sophomore midfielder
Reeanna Cook registered a game-best six shots with half of those on target. Graduate defender
Olivia Bekeleski and Garratt both had three shots.
Six of the game's eight corners were taken by the Mountain Lions.
Concord opens a two-game homestand 1:00 p.m. Wednesday versus Davis & Elkins at the Cline Complex in Beckley, West Virginia.
