Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Concord Goes 1-0-1 at Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team held off Davis & Elkins, 1-0, in the suspended game from September 10 between the two teams before playing to a draw with the Senators, 1-1, in the regularly-scheduled game Sunday night at Nuttall Field in Mountain East Conference action.

Game 1: Concord 1 – Davis & Elkins 0
The teams needed to complete a suspended game from September 10 with the Mountain Lions (7-2-6, 4-2-6 MEC) leading 1-0 in the 67th minute.

The game's lone goal was scored in the 56th minute as junior forward Armando Ramirez found fellow junior forward Fabian Amhof on a cross inside the 18-yard box, and Amhof deposited his team-best sixth goal of the season.

On Sunday, CU was able to hold Davis & Elkins (5-5-3, 5-4-2 MEC) in check for the final 23 minutes to secure the victory.

Sophomore goalkeeper Keegan Grant stopped four shots to notch his seventh shutout of the season.

The Mountain Lions held a 10-7 advantage in shots in the game. Sophomore midfielder Tomas Kelly took three shots.

Game 2: Concord 1 – Davis & Elkins 1
Freshman forward Ignacio Alvarez Maina provided a late goal to help the Mountain Lions secure a tie.

Trailing since the sixth minute of the game, Alvarez was able to collect a deflection in the six-yard box and put away his third goal of the season to tie the game with 88 seconds remaining.

The goal came after Davis & Elkins was unable to clear away a Concord corner kick from the attacking third.

The Mountain Lions withstood eight D&E shots in the first half, and Grant made three of his four saves for the game in the first 45 minutes.

Despite the Senators holding a 13-9 edge in total shots in the game, Concord was able to even out the shots in the second half as the Maroon and Gray outshot Davis & Elkins 7-5 after halftime.

Alvarez and junior midfielder Alessandro Raffl both notched two shots in the contest.

Concord held a slight edge in corner kicks, 5-4.

With the win, CU secured its second winning season in program history and the first since 2001. With two conference games remaining, the Mountain Lions are in third place in the MEC, one point ahead of both D&E and West Virginia Wesleyan.

The top six teams make the MEC Tournament in November.

CU steps out of conference play one more time this fall when it visits Tusculum 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
