Concord Places Third at MEC Championship

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Concord University men's cross country team finished third at the Mountain East Conference Championship Saturday morning at Oglebay Resort.

Charleston won the meet with 20 points as George Couttie of UC paced the effort with an individual win in a time of 25:35 for the 8,000-meter course.

The top runner for the Mountain Lions was senior Preston Prather who clocked a time of 26:43 to peg him eighth. Prather earned All-MEC First Team for the third time in his career with Saturday's performance.

Two others earned All-MEC Second Team with freshman Braden Ward placing 16th and junior Logan Zuchelli finishing 17th. Both ran 27:21 to claim spots in the top 20. For Zuchelli, it was his third straight year earning All-MEC honors.

Junior Ethan Board was the next Concord runner through as he stopped the clock at 27:39 to claim 22nd. Freshman Jaeden Holstein finished 36th in 28:43. Freshman AJ Skeens (38th/28:46) and freshman Bramley Childress (40th/28:57) rounded out the top seven for the Mountain Lions.

Graduate student Alex Watty ran 29:44, junior Zach Wilson completed the course in 30:15 and freshman Andrew Tickle was the final Concord runner through in 30:52.

Couttie was both the MEC Runner and Freshman of the Year. Nick Bias, Charleston's head coach, was the MEC Coach of the Year.

Next up for CU is the Atlantic Regional Championship November 4 at Lock Haven University.
