LAST TIME OUT
CU wrapped up the regular season with two team victories at the Concord Alumni Invite last Friday. The Mountain Lion women were paced by graduate student Emily Wallace who completed the 5,000-meter course in 19:51 on her way to being MEC Runner of the Year. Concord stuck seven runners in the top 10. Junior Madison Cornett (21:16) placed third with sophomore Katy Walkup (21:33) was fourth. Freshman Charlotte McGinnis completed the course in 21:55 to finish fifth. Junior Erin O'Sullivan clocked 22:04 to placed sixth. Sophomore Emma Londeree ran a time of 22:40 to placed eighth and freshman Abbey Londeree completed the top 10 in 23:02.

Concord's men's team scored 25 points to claim the team win. Junior Ethan Board was the runner-up for the Mountain Lions as he finished in 27:17. Freshman Braden Ward was four seconds back in third place. Freshman Jaeden Holstein was the final finisher in the top five as he completed the 8,000-meter course in 28:00. Freshman AJ Skeens (seventh) ran 28:38 as Concord occupied spots seven through ten. Graduate student Alex Watty finished in 28:41, freshman Andrew Tickle ran 28:47 and junior Zach Wilson clocked 29:04.

MEC CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES
Since 2015, the Mountain Lion women have finished in the top three at the MEC Championship in all but one season. Charleston and Davis & Elkins are heavy favorites to battle for the team championship while Concord will be in line to finish third. Wallace will factor in the individual race along with Charleston's Lily Dowdell, Mercy Jepleting, Julie Lafare, Leah Marketer and Madison Woolwine, Fairmont State's Carlina Jacquez and Davis & Elkins' Lydia Falkenstein and Ella Hesson.

Wallace is going for a fourth straight All-MEC First Team honor—a feat that has only been accomplished by Chelsea Callaway, from 2009-12, in program history. Walkup was an All-MEC Second Team performer last season by finishing in the top 20. O'Sullivan claimed the same honor two seasons ago. After placing in the top 25 each of her first two seasons, Cornett is seeking to breakthrough with a top-20 finish this season.

The CU men have a similar streak to the women with championship finishes at the conference meet. Dating back to 2015, Concord has been in the top three each year with three team championships from 2015-17. The Mountain Lions will challenge five-time champion Charleston as well as Davis & Elkins for the top spot Saturday morning.

The 2021 MEC Freshman of the Year, junior Logan Zuchelli, was All-MEC First Team two years ago and earned All-MEC Second Team last fall. Senior Preston Prather is a three-time All-MEC performer and has been All-MEC First Team each of the last two years. Ward and Holstein will factor into the MEC Freshman of the Year Award this year as well as the top 20 individual spots. Charleston's George Couttie is the favorite on the men's side, but will need to hold off Davis & Elkins duo Jan Thewes and Jackson Gibson as well as Prather and Zuchelli.
