BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Freshman midfielder
Wilma Hedenberg of the Concord University women's soccer team has been voted as the Mountain East Conference Offensive Player of the Week presented by The Health Plan, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Hedenberg, a native of Getinge, Sweden, scored three goals and also recorded an assist during an unbeaten week for CU in which it picked up wins over Fairmont State and West Virginia Wesleyan and tied Notre Dame.
She started the week with two goals and an assist in Concord's convincing 8-2 win over defending MEC Champion Fairmont State. The two-goal performance was the first brace for Hedenberg in her career.
Two days later—on Friday—Hedenberg scored one of the seven goals for the Mountain Lions in a shutout win over West Virginia Wesleyan.
Charleston's Jordan Maynard was the MEC Defensive Player of the Week.
The Mountain Lions host Wheeling 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the YMCA Cline Complex in Beckley.
