BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team rallied from a 1-0 deficit as it defeated West Virginia Wesleyan, 2-1, Wednesday night in a Mountain East Conferenced game at Culpepper Stadium.
WVWC (2-11-1, 0-10-1 MEC) struck first in the 39
th minute to jump out to the halftime advantage.
After halftime, the stage was set for junior forward
Sydney Tucker to have a big second half.
In the 50
th minute, junior defender
Olivia Shollenberger played a ball from the defensive half into the attacking area. An errant clearance by the Bobcats landed right on the foot of Tucker who found herself goal one-on-one with the goalkeeper. And she chipped the ball into the back of the net.
Tucker's second goal came in the 61
st minute off a CU (9-3-2, 8-2-1 MEC) corner kick. Wesleyan was unable to sweep the ball out of the penalty area as Tucker pounced on the ball and tapped in her second goal of the contest.
Playing with the lead, the Mountain Lions held WVWC without shot over the final 29 minutes.
Concord owned a lopsided 23-5 advantage in total shots with 13 shots on goal to West Virginia Wesleyan's three.
For Tucker, it was her second two-goal game of the season.
Graduate forward
Alexa Todd took a game-high eight shots while junior midfielder
Leah Fleming and Tucker both added five shots.
Junior forward
Nora Voisey was credited with the assist on Tucker's second goal.
CU remains on the road to face West Virginia State 6:00 p.m. Sunday.
