Abbie Smith collected a career-best 18 rebounds as part of her fifth double-double of the season (13 points, 18 rebounds). Junior guard
Nakaila Gray grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds despite only scoring two points. CU was playing the worst rebounding team in the MEC in NDC (-9.3 rebounding margin), however, the +31 rebounding margin for Concord at Notre Dame, 52-21, is the first +30 rebounding margin game since January 2018 at Bluefield State (65-35). Earlier this season, Concord outrebounded Alderson Broaddus, 44-38, as graduate forward
Alexis Phillips and Smith each had 12 boards. AB has a -8.6 rebounding margin, 11

SHARING IS CARING
Of the 27 field goals made by Concord Wednesday night, 22 were assisted—marking the first 20-assist game since last February at West Virginia State. Junior guard
Jaisah Smith passed out a career-best seven assists while Gray did the same with her five assists. Senior guards
Jazz Blankenship and
Ashton Funderburg both added three assists in the victory. The three assists for Funderburg matched a season best. Before Wednesday's performance, the Mountain Lions had only dished out 15 or more assists twice, in back-to-back games earlier this month against West Virginia Wesleyan and Davis & Elkins. CU is averaging 13.3 assists in its six wins this season compared to just 11.6 assists per game overall.
Â
LOCKED IN
Not only did Concord handle Notre Dame on the boards, but the Maroon and Gray suffocated the Falcons on the defensive end, holding NDC to 27.3 percent shooting Wednesday night. It marked the second time this season that CU has held an opponent to less than 30 percent shooting—the Mountain Lions limited Clarion to 24.1 percent in the opening game of the season. Earlier this year, Concord's defense held Alderson Broaddus to 38.3 percent on the road, but the Mountain Lions were stymied to 36.8 percent themselves inside Rex Pyles Arena. It was one of six instances that CU has held the opponent to less than 40 percent shooting this winter. Concord is seventh in the MEC in field goal defense (41.2) while the Battlers rank ninth (42.9).
Â
X-FACTORS
Blankenship threw in a season-high 15 points at Notre Dame as she sparked a big second quarter for the Mountain Lions in the win. It was the 22
nd time in her career that she topped double digits in the scoring column. Over her career, Concord is 16-6 when Blankenship scores 10 or more points. Though her career has been derailed some by injuries, Gray suited up in her 58
th career game Wednesday at Notre Dame. In those 58 games, the Mountain Lions have been on the winning side 34 times when Gray is on the floor. Before Wednesday night, Blankenship's season high in points was at Alderson Broaddus in November when she scored 13. Gray filled up the box score with six points, five rebounds and two steals.
Â
CRUISE CONTROL
The home team has won the last four matchups in the all-time series between Concord and Alderson Broaddus. And the Mountain Lions have had no trouble with the Battlers inside the Carter Center. In November 2021, CU led wire-to-wire in a 91-52 win. Blankenship (14), J. Smith (13) and graduate guard
Maggie Guynn (12) all finished in double figures. Concord shot 20 percent higher (52-32) than AB. Funderburg had a career-best seven assists. Two years ago at CU, the Maroon and Gray set a program record for margin of defeat as it downed Alderson Broaddus by 41 points, 95-54. Blankenship netted a then career-high 17 points while junior guard
Maddie Ratcliff went for 11 points in just eight minutes. Concord has scored 30 or more points in each of the last two first quarters at home against AB.
Â
TRENDING UP
Alderson Broaddus gives up the most points in the MEC at 84.7 points per game, however, the Battlers found a way to hold the Mountain Lions to 57 points in a 68-57 November win. Concord has put together one of its best offensive stretches in the last five games as it has topped 65 points in four of the last five contests, and enters Saturday having shot 45 percent or better in three straight games, including 47.4 percent on the road Wednesday against Notre Dame. It marked the first time that Concord shot at least 45 percent from the floor in three consecutive games since February 2021 when it went five straight games—a streak that started against Alderson Broaddus.
