HEAT WAVE
Despite an 84-75 loss at Notre Dame Wednesday night, graduate guard Lual Daniel Rahama pumped in a career-best 28 points as 18 of those came before halftime. The Newport News, Virginia native surpassed 1,000 career points with a three-pointer in the opening minutes of the game. Rahama has scored 712 career points at Concord. Included his outburst Wednesday was a career-high six three-pointers which were the most for a CU player since Matt Weir hit on seven triples at Notre Dame December 2021. Fifth-year senior forward Da'Vion Moore came alive in the second half as he scored all 14 of his points after intermission, going 7-for-7 from the floor. It was the best shooting percentage for a CU player with at least five field goal attempts since Dave Mulumba was 8-for-8 at home versus Wheeling in February 2020.

RETURN TO SENDER
Moore also impacted the Notre Dame contest on the defensive end as he came up with a season-best three blocks. The Mountain Lions as a team notched eight blocks which tied a season high set at Alderson Broaddus in late November. Freshman forward Rene Diop swatted a career-best two shots in the game earlier this week. Meanwhile, senior forward Jevon Laidler tallied a block at Notre Dame, and is fourth in the conference in blocks per game (1.3). At Alderson Broaddus, Laidler registered three blocks while Moore pitched in two blocks.  As a team, Concord is second in the MEC in blocks per game (4.1). AB is 11th in the conference with 2.6 blocks per game.

FOUL SHOOTING STREAK
Seven of the 12 points for sophomore forward Amare Smith at Notre Dame came at the foul line as he hit all seven attempts. Smith has only missed three free throws this season (44-for-47), and has a streak of making 30 consecutive foul shots. He has not missed since December's home game against Notre Dame. The 30 straight makes at the charity stripe for the Huntington, West Virginia native are the most since Tommy Bolte made 31 straight free throws in January 2019. Though Smith does not qualify to be among the MEC leaders in free-throw percentage, his mark of 93.6 percent would be second in the conference behind West Virginia State's Malik Whitaker who has knocked down 94.6 percent at the foul line, 53-for-56.

HALFTIME ADJUSTMENTS
After trailing 35-33 at halftime against Alderson Broaddus in November, the Mountain Lions ended up cruising to an 81-66 win as it shot a scorching 59.3 percent in the second half. Additionally, CU shot 53.2 percent for the game, and was an efficient 7-for-12 from three-point range. Junior guard JJ Harper knocked down all three of his three-point tries. Rahama was 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. The win at AB was one of four times this season that Concord has won the after being down at halftime. In fact, CU has either trailed or been tied with the Battlers in its three-game winning streak over Alderson Broaddus.

BATTLING THE BATTLERS
AB holds a decisive 63-34 advantage in the all-time series with Concord. The three-game winning streak for the Mountain Lions in series history is the longest for CU. Rahama was instrumental in a home win over Alderson Broaddus last season as he posted 15 points and eight rebounds. Moore and senior guard Ethan Heller each had 11 points in a 75-73 victory. Laidler and junior guard Jordan Wooden carried the weight for the Mountain Lions in a road win at Alderson Broaddus last January. The duo combined for 44 points as they went 19-of-31 from the floor. Laidler had 23 points and Wooden dumped in 21 points. Harper and Rahama each had 17 points at AB earlier this season while Laidler added 15 points.

ADVANTAGE CONCORD
The Mountain Lions were outrebounded, 45-38, by Notre Dame—marking just the fifth time that Concord has been outworked on the boards this season. The Maroon and Gray did have a 40-32 advantage in rebounding in their win at Alderson Broaddus earlier this season. No CU player had more than eight rebounds as five players finished with at least three boards led by Laidler's eight rebounds. Concord also limited the Battlers to seven second-chance points. Though it was outrebounded on the road, CU still ranks third in the MEC in rebounding margin (+5.2). Alderson Broaddus' rebounding margin of -3.1 is 11th in the conference. AB has been outrebounded nine times in 2022-23.
