PASS IT AROUND
In a 70-58 loss to West Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday night, CU set a season-high with 16 assists. All but five of Concord's 21 field goals were assisted (76.1 percent). It was the highest ratio of shots that the Mountain Lions have assisted on since last season at WVWC when the Maroon and Gray assisted on 23 of 26 made shots (88.4 percent). Junior guard
Maddie Ratcliff tied her career high with five assists Wednesday. Graduate forward
Alexis Phillips also matched her career with four assists versus WVWC while graduate guard
Maggie Guynn established a new season high in assists with three. Last year, CU had 15.5 assists per game versus Davis & Elkins, including 15 on 25 made shots at the Carter Center.
INSIDE FORCE
Freshman forward
Abbie Smith led the Mountain Lions in scoring at Wesleyan as she tallied her second 20-point game of the season with 21 points on 9-for-11 shooting. Smith posted half of CU's points in the paint with 18 in the painted area. In terms of percentage, it was the Little Hocking, Ohio native's best game from the floor. Earlier this season, she had 25 points at Bluefield State, but was only 11-of-18. And Smith is right on pace of two-time All-American
Riley Fitzwater as Fitzwater's third career 20-point game came in her 12
th career game at CU. The D&E combination of Marissa Berlin and Kaylee Milburn are combining for 15.5 points per game. Smith leads Concord in scoring with 11.7 points per contest.
THROWS ARE FREE
Though it only got to the foul line 15 times at West Virginia Wesleyan, CU continued its strong showing at the charity stripe as it shot a season-best 86.7 percent (13-for-15). The two misses for Concord was by its best foul shooter and the third-best free throw shooter in the league, junior guard
Jaisah Smith (83.3 percent). Junior guard
Nakaila Gray and Smith both finished three-point plays at the line while Phillips hit all four of her foul shots. The Mountain Lions are fifth in the MEC in free throw shooting (71.4 percent), having gone five straight game making at least 70 percent at the line. Meanwhile, D&E is only shooting 55.4 percent at the foul line, last in the conference.
