Concord Comes Up Short Versus Charleston

BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Charleston Wednesday night in a Mountain East Conference matchup at the YMCA Paul Cline Complex.

After a scoreless first half, the Golden Eagles (5-4, 5-2 MEC) broke through with a goal in the 69th minute. Charleston had a shot go off the crossbar nine seconds earlier before scoring the only goal of the game.

Concord (5-3-1, 3-3-1 MEC) put together a flurry of action to end the first half. Off a corner kick, UC was able to clear the initial wave. However, junior defender Olivia Bekeleski had a shot saved in the 41st minute. With less than two minutes left in the first half, redshirt freshman midfielder Reeanna Cook got a good look at goal as she sent a shot wide left.

The Mountain Lions had another promising chance in the 52nd minute as senior midfielder Michelle Brogden had her shot saved to keep the game scoreless.

After Charleston scored, CU was unable to get a shot off over the final 20 minutes of the contest.

Concord was held to a season-low six shots with four on frame. The Golden Eagles tallied 13 shots. Brogden had two shots on goal for CU.

Fifth-year senior goalkeeper Leah Marsh made six saves.

The Mountain Lions travel to Fairmont State 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
