BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Concord University women's cross country team opened the season with a second-place showing at the Virginia Tech Invite Friday at the Buford Meredith XC Course.
The Mountain Lions finished with 61 points, three points better than Charleston.
Fifth-year senior
Hannah Altizer finished the 4,000-meter course in 15:58 as she placed 13
th. Senior
Emily Wallace came through in 16:03 to place 15
th. CU made it a trio of runners in the top 20 as sophomore
Erin O'Sullivan came through in 19
th, clocking 16:28.
Sophomore
Madison Cornett (21
st) and freshman
Katy Walkup (22
nd) finished right behind each other in 16:40 and 16:43, respectively. Freshman
Savannah Cunningham placed 29
th in 18:18 while sophomore
Lia Jennings rounded out the top seven for the Mountain Lions crossing in 20:22, good enough for 40
th.
Senior
Maggie Thompson was 47
th for CU as she clocked 25:23.
Virginia Tech scored 15 points to win the meet. VT's Ava Hassebrock won with a time of 14:44.
CU is back in action next Friday when it hosts the Concord Alumni at Pipestem State Park.
