Concord Places Second at Virginia Tech Invite

BLACKSBURG, Va. –The Concord University men's cross country team ran to a second-place finish Friday night in the season-opening meet at the Virginia Tech Invite at the Buford Meredith XC Course.

Concord scored 54 points to finish second behind only the hosts. CU bested nationally-ranked Charleston by 16 points.

Fifth-year senior Issac Prather picked up the individual win as he clocked 18:18 on the 6,000-meter course.

Fellow fifth-year senior Cedric Drennen and junior Preston Prather finished 16th and 17th as they came through in 19:17 and 19:20, respectively. Sophomore Logan Zuchelli just missed the top 20 as he crossed in 21st, running 19:30. The scoring runners for Concord was rounded out by junior Caleb Hatcher. He finished 33rd with a time of 20:00.

Sophomore Ethan Board (46t), senior Alex Watty (47th) and freshman Alex Irvin (48th) ran 20:56, 21:00 and 21:07 as the trio finished in a row. Sophomore Zack Wilson clocked 21:25.

Freshman Jamie Wall (22:14), junior Isaiah Jackson-Darby (23:15), sophomore Bryce Legg (23:21), freshman Connor Cormack (24:44), sophomore Luke Ruhnke (26:40) and sophomore Madoc Lathroum (28:59) rounded out the runners for Concord.

The Mountain Lions host the Concord Alumni September 9 at Pipestem State Park.
