BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team scored three second-half goals but came up short in a 4-3 defeat at West Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game at Cebe Ross Field.
Trailing 3-0, Concord (1-4-2, 0-4-1 MEC) netted its first goal in the 55
th minute as freshman forward
Louis Cole scored his second goal of the season on assists from junior midfielder
Ricardo Chinea-Pegler and freshman forward
Joel Walker.
Just over 10 minutes later in the 66
th minute, freshman midfielder
Tomas Kelly took advantage of a counter attack as he slotted a shot into the left corner to cut the margin in half. The goal came after CU's defense stopped a Wesleyan (2-1-2, 1-1-2 MEC) attack as freshman defender Garrett Boucher assisted on the goal.
WVWC opened up a 4-2 lead in the 78
th minute, however, CU had an immediate answer 65 seconds later.
Kelly wasted no time in recording his first career brace as he received a pass from freshman forward
Vancy Ruiz-Andaluz and beat the Bobcats' goalkeeper for the second time in the game.
Each team had a final chance within the last 10 minutes as freshman defender

Wesleyan's Hunter Dierlam recorded a hat trick as he scored the first three goals of the game.
The Mountain Lions are off until September 25 when they host Alderson Broaddus at 1:00 p.m. at the YMCA Cline Complex in Beckley.
