Concord Drops Matches to Point Park, Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Concord University volleyball team lost two matches at the Seton Hill Tournament Saturday afternoon as they fell to Point Park and Seton Hill.

The Mountain Lions are 5-9 after action on Saturday.

Match 1: Point Park 3 – Concord 0 (16-25, 20-25, 15-25)

Set 1
Concord stayed stride-for-stride with Point Park in the opening game before the Pioneers pulled away at 15-12.  Junior middle hitter Kyndra Pilant recorded a kill to trim the margin to three before a 4-0 run from PPU.  

Set 2
A kill from senior middle hitter Amber Hall made the score 6-5 Point Park. Down by as much as six points in the game, CU stormed back to get within 18-17 after a Pioneers' error. But, PPU pulled back ahead 23-18.

Set 3
The Maroon and Gray battled throughout the third game despite falling behind 5-0 to start the set. CU trimmed the deficit to 16-11, but five straight points from the Pioneers closed out the match.

Match Stats
Sophomore outside hitter Gracie Brackney had a team-best 10 kills. Freshman setter Kenzee Chaffin chipped in 20 assists and seven digs. Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Steele tallied a team-best 14 digs while adding six kills.
 
Match 2: Seton Hill 3 – Concord 0 (14-25, 21-25, 14-25)

Set 1
Seton Hill raced out a 9-1 lead in the opening game. The Mountain Lions chipped away at the deficit to get back within 16-10 after a service ace from Chaffin. Three straight points from CU—two on kills from Hall—made it 21-13, but it was as close as Concord would get.

Set 2
CU trailed throughout the set as a 6-0 run brought the Mountain Lions to within 19-14. Chaffin had a kill and an ace during the run. Another 4-0 spurt allowed Concord to creep within three points, 23-20. Back-to-back aces from sophomore defensive specialist Kaylee Spees capped the run. It was as close as CU would get though.

Set 3
Consecutive kills from Pilant and Steele made the score 13-9, but a 5-0 run from the Griffins created separation in the game.

Match Stats
Steele notched eight kills while Hall had six kills. Chaffin added 17 assists.

The Mountain Lions return home to face WVU Tech 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.
