Concord and King Finish in a 2-2 Tie

BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with King Thursday evening at the YMCA Paul Cline Complex in a non-conference contest.

After a scoreless first half, the action picked up in a quick spurt in the second half as all four goals were scored in a 12-minute span.

Senior midfielder Michael Shelor found the back of the net for the fifth time in his career as CU went on a counter in the 61st minute. After freshman defender Andrew Beohler took a pass from freshman forward Louis Cole on the left flank, Beohler found Shelor on the right side of the penalty box for the score.

King (0-0-1) answered in the 67th minute as a ball in the penalty area was unable to be fully cleared and the Tornado took advantage.  However, less than two minutes later the Mountain Lions (0-0-1) took advantage of a free kick.

After freshman midfielder Caleb Mott's initial delivery into the box was cleared out, he collected the second ball and found freshman defender Jonathan Baldwin on the far side post for the score. KU was the beneficiary of a free kick opportunity in the 73rd minute as a shot from just outside the penalty area went inside the left post for a second equalizer from King.

Freshman defender Alex Harris nearly pushed Concord ahead in the 78th minute as his header off of a corner kick went high of the target. King had a chance in the 80th minute, but the shot was saved by freshman goalkeeper Keegan Grant as he kept the score deadlocked.

The Tornado had a slight 9-8 edge in total shots. Both Concord shots on target found the back of the net. All four corner kicks in the game belonged to the Mountain Lions.

Grant made four saves in his debut.

The Mountain Lions start Mountain East Conference games 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Frostburg State.
