Concord Draws Frostburg State, 2-2

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Concord University men's soccer team opened up Mountain East Conference play Sunday afternoon against Frostburg State with a 2-2 tie at Bobcat Stadium.

A goal in the 76th minute by senior midfielder Michael Shelor ensured that CU (0-0-2, 0-0-1 MEC) would earn a point in the conference opener.

Freshman forward Tomas Kelly got the Mountain Lions on the board in the 10th minute as he converted a penalty kick after a Frostburg State (0-0-1, 0-0-1 MEC) hand ball in the penalty box.

Concord continued to pepper the area around the goal as it had nine shots in the opening 45 minutes, but just two shots were on target.

The Bobcats scored two unanswered goals in the second half as they found the back of the net in the 57th and 71st minute. However, after the second FSU goal the Mountain Lions had a quick response as they scored off a free kick in the 76th minute

Freshman midfielder Joel Walker chipped a free kick near the far post. The ball was headed back across the penalty area by freshman defender Jonathan Baldwin where Shelor poked in his second goal of the season from three yards away.

CU had a shot blocked off the line just three minutes after equalizing the game. Additionally, freshman goalkeeper Keegan Grant had to make three of his seven saves in the contest in the final 15 minutes to keep the game, 2-2.

The Mountain Lions owned an 18-15 edge in total shots, but Frostburg State had more shots on goal (9-7).

Kelly led Concord with seven shots in the contest.

The Mountain Lions continue on the road 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when they face West Liberty.
