Box Score 1 ELKINS, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team was defeated in both games of its Mountain East Conference doubleheader against Davis & Elkins Saturday afternoon at Joni Smith Field.
Game 1: Davis & Elkins 5 – Concord 4
The Senators (26-25, 22-10 MEC) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to complete their comeback and walk off Concord (17-35, 10-22 MEC) in game one.
CU gained an early lead in the top of the second inning when freshman first baseman/outfielder
Kassidy Garvey hit a solo home run over the left field fence. The blast was her third of the season. Later in the inning, senior catcher/utility player
Mikayah Pulliam doubled to left field. After Pulliam advanced to third on a single from freshman pitcher/first baseman
Caitlyn Bauer, senior third baseman/outfielder
Sarah Thompson scored her on a single to give CU a 2-0 lead.
Davis & Elkins climbed its way back to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Bauer led off the top of the seventh with a single into center field, then was pinch ran for by sophomore outfielder
Imani Campbell. After Campbell stole second, senior pitcher/outfielder
Laura Thompson drew a walk. An error in the infield allowed junior catcher/outfielder
Jolie Privett to reach and load the bases with one out in the inning. A two-RBI single from Garvey scored both Campbell and L. Thompson to give Concord a 4-3 lead.
Garvey tallied two hits, including a home run and three RBI. S. Thompson had two hits and an RBI in the contest.
Bauer started the game in the circle where she struck out four batters in five innings pitched. L. Thompson (0-4) was the losing pitcher in game one after 1.2 innings of relief.

Game 2: Davis & Elkins 8 – Concord 5
Davis & Elkins scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a 5-3 Concord lead. Â
L. Thompson led off the game with a single into center field, and then stole second during the next at-bat. Infield errors on back-to-back plays allowed L. Thompson to score and gave Concord an early 1-0 lead.
With two outs in the top of the second, Pulliam and freshman pitcher/infielder
Rachael Koller both drew walks to bring fifth-year senior outfielder
Hanna Hylton to the plate. Hylton drove a ball over the center field fence to give Concord a 4-0 lead. The blast was the first home run of her career.
S. Thompson led off the top of the third inning with a single into left field and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Privett. With two outs in the inning, Bauer roped a single into right center field to plate S. Thompson and extend the CU lead to 5-0.
Offensively, Hylton collected three RBI with the home run. Bauer and Privett recorded an RBI each in the game.
Koller (7-16) was tagged with the loss after pitching a complete game, striking out five batters.
CU concludes the 2022 campaign with an overall record of 17-35, and conference record of 10-22. Saturday was the final career games at Concord for Hylton and L. Thompson.
