BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team was defeated in both games of its Mountain East Conference doubleheader against West Virginia Wesleyan Friday afternoon at Culpepper Field.
Game 1: West Virginia Wesleyan 5 – Concord 1
Concord (17-33, 10-20 MEC) kept the game close through the first five innings, but West Virginia Wesleyan (31-14-1, 21-7 MEC) scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to push past CU in game one.
Freshman pitcher/first baseman
Caitlyn Bauer began the game in the pitching circle by facing just one batter over the minimum through the first two innings of play. However, the Bobcats were able to push a run across in the third to go up 1-0.
After WVWC tripled with one out in the bottom of the fourth, the Bobcats attempted a suicide squeeze. However, Bauer caught the bunt attempt and doubled the runner off of third to end the threat.
West Virginia Wesleyan plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend its lead to 5-0.
Junior catcher/outfielder
Jolie Privett broke up the shutout bid in the top of the seventh by launching a leadoff solo home run over the center field fence. The blast was the second home run of her career, and the first this season.
Bauer (10-13) was the losing pitcher in the contest after pitching a complete game with two strikeouts.
Game 2: West Virginia Wesleyan 8 – Concord 0
WVWC scored all eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to beat Concord in game two.
A leadoff single from senior third baseman/outfielder
Sarah Thompson, followed by a single from Privett two batters later put Concord in a good spot to push across a run in the top of the fourth. However, WVWC was able to work out of the inning with no damage.
Offensively, Thompson, Privett, and freshman first baseman/outfielder
Kassidy Garvey each recorded a hit.

Rachael Koller (7-16) was tagged with the loss in game two.
Concord finishes the regular season at Davis & Elkins Saturday at noon at Joni Smith Field. Â
