ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team split its Mountain East Conference doubleheader against Fairmont State Saturday afternoon at the CU Softball Field.
Game 1: Concord 3 – Fairmont State 1
Concord (15-27, 8-14 MEC) scored three runs in the first three innings of the game and held Fairmont State (15-17, 11-11 MEC) to two hits en route to a game one win.
Scoreless in the bottom of the first inning, senior pitcher/outfielder
Laura Thompson singled and immediately stole second base. Back-to-back walks to freshman third baseman
Kylee Stacy and senior third baseman/outfielder
Sarah Thompson loaded the bases. Freshman shortstop/utility player
Courtney Raines singled to left field to score L. Thompson, giving CU an early 1-0 lead.
With one out in the bottom of the third inning, S. Thompson doubled to left field. Raines followed with a single to advance S. Thompson up a base and put runners at the corners. A two-out double down the left field line from freshman first baseman/outfielder
Kassidy Garvey plated two runs to extend CU's lead to 3-0.
At the plate, Raines recorded two hits and one RBI in the game. Garvey tallied two RBI in the contest.
Freshman pitcher/first baseman
Caitlyn Bauer (9-10) earned the win in the circle. Bauer pitched a complete game, where she struck out five batters, and allowed two hits and one earned run.

Game 2: Concord 9 – Fairmont State 2
Fairmont State plated four runs in the third and three runs in the sixth to push past Concord in game two.
Down 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Concord worked the bases loaded with no outs in the frame. Raines hit a sacrifice fly to score L. Thompson and advance Stacy up to third base. S. Thompson advanced to second on a throwing error back into the infield. Junior catcher/outfielder
Jolie Privett made it a 5-2 game by doubling to right field, scoring Stacy and advancing S. Thompson to third. Fairmont State worked its way out of the jam with no further damage.
L. Thompson, Stacy, and Privett recorded one hit each. Raines and Privett tallied an RBI each in the game.
In the circle, freshman pitcher/infielder
Rachael Koller (6-12) was the losing pitcher in the contest, tossing 2.1 innings. In a relief outing, L. Thompson tossed a season-high eight strikeouts and allowed two earned runs.
Concord travels to Glenville State to play a MEC doubleheader Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
