WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Concord University softball team dropped a 6-1 decision to Trevecca Nazarene Monday in its first contest of The Spring Games.
The Mountain Lions (3-10) scored the game's first run, but was held down by TNU (9-6) for the remainder of the game.
Senior pitcher/outfielder
Laura Thompson stroked her second double of the season to right field two batters into the game, and came around to score on freshman first baseman/outfielder
Kassidy Garvey's infield single with two outs in the first.
Trevecca Nazarene answered with a pair of runs on a two-run home run in the bottom of the first. The Trojans grew the lead to 5-1 through three innings.
Down four, CU appeared poised to cut into the deficit in the fifth. Back-to-back two-out walks and a single from freshman shortstop/utility
Courtney Raines load the bases for freshman pitcher/infielder
Rachael Koller.
Koller appeared to have a two-run double, but the play was overturned on an appeal and she was ruled out as TNU held onto a 5-1 lead.
Concord drew two walks in the seventh, but was unable to get any closer.
Raines recorded two hits in the contest. Garvey and Thompson both reached base twice with each having a hit and a walk.
Freshman pitcher/first baseman
Caitlyn Bauer (1-4) was charged with the loss as she gave up five runs in three innings. Thompson struck out three in three innings of relief.
CU's second game of the day against Concordia-St. Paul was called in the first inning due to rain. A time for the resumption of that contest is to be determined.
