Concord Begins Action at Spring Games Monday, Tuesday

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team prepares to play two doubleheaders in the first two days of the Spring Games held at the DiamondPlex Softball Complex in Winter Haven, Florida.

On Monday, CU plays Trevecca Nazarene at 3:45 p.m. and Concordia-St. Paul at 6:00 p.m. On Tuesday, the Mountain Lions face off against Ashland at 10:00 p.m. and Lake Erie at 12:15 p.m.

RECORDS
The Mountain Lions are 3-9 so far this season.

Trevecca Nazarene is 8-6 after dropping their first game of the Spring Games on Sunday.

Concordia- St. Paul is 7-1 and is on a seven-game win streak.

Ashland has a record of 2-1 after starting their season competing in the Blue Bridge Battle Tournament.

Lake Erie starts their 2022 season at The Spring Games. Last season, the Storm finished with an 11-32 record.

STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE
Senior catcher/utility player Mikayah Pulliam was a big impact for CU at the plate in the Bearcat/Fleet Invite. In four games, Pulliam had five hits, drove in six RBI, and hit two home runs. In the win against Coker, the Danville, Virginia native drove in two of CU's four RBI.

With a hit in each of the games against King, freshman third baseman Kylee Stacy has extended her hitting streak to 11 games.

Concord's top three hitters of Stacy, Pulliam, and senior third baseman/outfielder Sarah Thompson combined are batting .389 at the plate with three doubles, one triple, three home runs, and 19 RBI.

HISTORY AT THE SPRING GAMES
The last time the Mountain Lions played in the Spring Games was during the 2019 season, winning five of the eight games they played. Current senior pitcher/outfielder Laura Thompson collected 11 hits with three RBI and nine runs scored. L. Thompson won two games and lost one in the pitching circle in the 2019 Spring Games. For the tournament, she tossed 17 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched and had one complete game outing.

S. Thompson had a tournament batting average of .375. She had nine hits, drove in six RBI, and scored four runs.

NEW FOES
Out of the four teams that Concord faces on Monday and Tuesday, Lake Erie is the only program that that CU has history with. Concord faced Lake Erie in the 2019 Spring Games where the Storm came out on top, 9-2. L. Thompson batted 1-for-2 with one run scored in the game. Tuesday's game against Lake Erie will be the second time that the two teams have faced off against each other.

THE FIELD AT A GLANCE
Despite winning six of its last nine games, Trevecca Nazarene is currently on a two-game losing streak. The Trojans dropped their first game of the Spring Games to Lindenwood, 2-0. Pitcher Ashlan Sensing has a 4-3 record in the pitching circle. Sensing has struck out 38 hitters and allowed 16 earned runs in 44.1 innings pitched.

Concordia-St. Paul's Amanda Parsons leads her team in batting average, hitting .478 with 11 hits, one home run, six RBI, and six runs scored. Pitcher Bryanna Olson has a 5-1 record in the pitching circle. Olson has an ERA of 0.92. She has tossed 40 strikeouts and has allowed 31 hits and five earned runs in 38 innings pitched.

Ashland is led by Jordyn Severns, who has a batting average of .455, five hits, two doubles, and seven RBI. Pitcher Josie Duncan has a 2.45 ERA. Duncan has tossed eight strikeouts and has given up eight earned runs in 20 innings pitched.

Lake Erie begins their season at The Spring Games. Last season, the Storm finished 11-32.
