ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team was defeated in both its games by Davis & Elkins in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader played at the CU Softball Field.
Game 1: Davis & Elkins 9 – Concord 1
Davis & Elkins (6-17, 4-2 MEC) put nine runs on the board and held CU to two hits to beat the Mountain Lions (6-18, 0-6 MEC) in five innings.
CU allowed four D&E runs to score in the top of the second inning, followed by another three runs in the third frame. In the fifth inning, freshman second baseman/outfielder
Aubrey Matice walked, then stole second and advanced to third on an error. Senior third baseman/outfielder
Sarah Thompson laid down a bunt that allowed Matice to score for the only CU run of the game.

Kassidy Garvey recorded one hit each.
Rachael Koller (3-8) was the losing pitcher in the game, striking out three batters in three innings.
Game 2: Davis & Elkins 13 – Concord 4
Concord put up three runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Senators scored four runs in the top of the second, three runs in the fourth and sixth runs in the fifth to allow D&E to take game two.
After a scoreless top of the first inning, CU jumped out to a three-run lead in the bottom of the frame. Freshman third baseman
Kylee Stacy led off the inning reaching second on a throwing error in the infield, then advanced to third on a groundout. After senior pitcher/outfielder
Laura Thompson walked, Raines hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Stacy and give CU a 1-0 lead. An error in the outfield on the next play allowed L. Thompson to score and the batter, junior catcher outfielder
Jolie Privett, to reach third base. Freshman first baseman/outfielder
Kassidy Garvey singled to drive Privett in to score and give Concord a 3-0 lead.
Davis & Elkins scored four runs in the top of the second inning to give the Senators a 4-3 lead. In the bottom half of the second inning, freshman shortstop/second baseman
Kayla McCraw singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second two batters later. S. Thompson drove McCraw in to score with a double into the gap in right center field and make it a tie ballgame at 4-4. Â Â
The Senators put together three runs in the top of the fourth and six runs in the fifth to close the game out.
At the plate, S. Thompson, Raines, and Garvey had one RBI each.
Caitlyn Bauer (3-8) got the loss in the pitching circle, tossing four strikeouts in 3.1 innings.
Concord plays two against West Virginia Wesleyan in a MEC matchup Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
