Wheeling started the year 1-8, but is 3-3 in its last six with a record of 4-11.

STRONG STARTS
The Mountain Lions continued their stellar stretch of games as fifth-year senior pitcher
Dan Nicholls provided a quality start at Emory & Henry Tuesday in a 6-3 Concord win. Nicholls tossed 6.2 innings as he yielded just three earned runs and struck out three. The Tampa, Florida native had his best outing since a six-inning, one-run effort against Wheeling with nine strikeouts to open the 2021 season. Sophomore pitcher
Eddie Blake enters the weekend having put together three straight quality starts. The reigning MEC Pitcher went a career-high 7.2 innings against Mercyhurst last weekend as he scattered two runs and three hits with four strikeouts. Over his last three starts, Blake has gone 20.2 innings and only allowed seven earned runs. Last season, current CU pitching coach
Trent Abernathy struck out nine in a complete-game performance against Wheeling in the MEC Tournament as Concord won 15-1.
KEEP ON, KEEPING ON
Junior outfielder
Kyle Keenan has hit safely in all 14 games this season as he extended his streak at Emory & Henry. Over his last seven games, the Fredericksburg, Virginia native has five multi-hit games and is batting .522 (12-for-23) with four RBI and four extra-base hits. Freshman catcher
Joey Duffer helped pace the Concord offense at Emory & Henry as he had hit second multi-hit game in the last four that included his first career home run. Duffer has at least one RBI in four of the last five games. And while junior outfielder
Josh Adkins recently had a 12-game hit streak snapped, he, Keenan and sophomore infielder
Zack Saryeldin are the only players to have reached base in all 14 games this season. Saryeldin is the reigning MEC Player of the Week after six hits in 13 at-bats last week in three games.
SEEKING REVENGE
While Concord defeated Wheeling in the MEC Tournament last season, the Mountain Lions were 0-4 against West Liberty and Wheeling in the regular season in 2021. CU was held to two runs in the doubleheader with WLU. Fifth-year senior infielder
Anthony Stehlin had six hits in 15 at-bats versus the teams from the MEC North last season in the regular season. Sophomore infielder
Michael Dupont went 5-for-13 across the four games, including bookend two-hit contests. The Mountain Lions took out their frustration on Wheeling in the MEC Tournament. Saryeldin had three hits and scored four runs at the top of the order. Junior outfielder
Richard Ortiz provided two hits and three RBI to the CU offense.
WHEELING AT A GLANCE
The Cardinals are the defending MEC North Champion from a season ago, but went 0-2 in the conference tournament. Jack Skantze is hitting a team-best .383. All-MEC outfielder Chris Iazetta is batting .240, but has a team-high 15 RBI this season. Catcher Riley Cameron sports a .340 average to go with three home runs and 12 RBI. Wheeling has a team ERA of 11.15. Paul Tripi has tossed a team-best 20.1 innings with 13 strikeouts.
WEST LIBERTY AT A GLANCE

The Hilltoppers have allowed seven or fewer runs seven times this season, including in five straight games heading into the weekend. WLU is hitting just .192 as a team.
