BEATING THE BEST
Concord went 2-1 last week as it split two games with Salem and defeated nationally-ranked Mercyhurst, 5-3. Sophomore pitcher
Eddie Blake turned in his third straight quality start as he tossed a career-best 7.2 inning and scattered three hits and two earned runs while striking out four. Blake improved to 3-0 this season as freshman pitcher/infielder
Rylee Nicholas came to in to record the final four outs against Mercyhurst, and in the process pick up his first career save. Nicholas has only allowed two earned runs in 12.2 innings out of the bullpen for a 1.42 ERA. In the win over Mercyhurst, Concord's offense was paced by three home runs. Sophomore catcher/infielder
Chris Satcher blasted a three-run home run. Junior outfielder
Kyle Keenan launched his first career home run while sophomore infielder
Zack Saryeldin hit his fourth long ball of the season to tie for the MEC lead.
ON THE RISE
Keenan and Saryeldin paced the Mountain Lions' offense last week. Keenan was 6-for-10 across the three games as the Fredericksburg, Virginia native raised his average to .400 for the season, third on the team and 10
th in the MEC. Saryeldin also collected six hits in 13 at-bats to keep his average a stellar .456 for the season which ranks third in the MEC. And before being held without an RBI in the final two games of the week, Satcher had produced at least two RBI in four straight games as his 19 RBI for the season ranks first in the conference. Sophomore infielder
Michael Dupont's 16 RBI are tied for third in the conference this season. The duo of Dupont and Satcher are a combined 21-for-31 (.677) with runners in scoring position in 2022.
FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING
CU matches up against Emory & Henry for the first time in program history when the Mountain Lions make the 91-mile trek to the southwestern Virginia campus Tuesday. The Wasps are making the transition from Division III to Division II. The E&H campus is located just 59 miles from former MEC member UVa.-Wise. Concord will be facing a team from Virginia for the first time since sweeping four games from UVa.-Wise at the end of the 2019 season. CU and Emory & Henry will play again in Athens in three weeks' time.
EMORY & HENRY AT A GLANCE
The Wasps enter Tuesday's game having lost four straight, but two of the four losses have been decided by either two runs or less. The offense has carried the weight for E&H early in the season as it hits .336 and averages 7.4 runs per game. Hayden Milley is batting .319 with four home runs and 14 RBI. Sean Davis-Cherry is hitting .400 with a home run and 12 RBI in his first season of collegiate baseball. Emory & Henry and CU have one common opponent this season and that's UVa.-Wise as it won two of three games from E&H in February.
