STAYING HOT AT THE PLATE
Freshman third baseman
Kylee Stacy looks to build on her nine-game hit streak when CU takes on King Wednesday afternoon. Stacy has started all 10 games for the Mountain Lions. Stacy is the team leader in batting average (.433), hits (13), and runs scored (11). She was a key factor in the wins against Chowan and Coker. She batted 2-for-4 with three RBI and scored twice in the victory against Chowan. Against Coker, Stacy hit 3-for-4 with a double and scored three runs.
BEARCAT/FLEET INVITE RECAP
After dropping the first two games of the Bearcat/Fleet Invite, CU responded by walking-off Coker, 8-7. Down 7-4 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, Concord started to chip away at the Coker lead. The Mountain Lions scored the final four runs of the contest against Coker to notch its first walk off victory since the end of the 2019 season when CU defeated Notre Dame 5-2 on a three-run walk-off home run. Sophomore outfielder
Imani Campbell scored the tying run before freshman pitcher/infielder
Rachael Koller scored the game-winning run. Both scores on wild pitches from the Coker pitching staff. Senior pitcher/outfielder
Laura Thompson was also key in the comeback victory with two hits while senior catcher/utility
Mikayah Pulliam drove in two runs against the Cobras.
HISTORY AGAINST KING
The two programs have played a total of six times, first playing during the 2012 season. King has the advantage in the series, winning five of the six games played. However, Concord defeated King 4-1 in extra innings during the 2020 season. Current senior third baseman/outfielder
Sarah Thompson was a key factor at the plate, hitting a double in the eighth inning that scored the go-ahead run. The Prince George, Virginia native came around to score one batter later. In her lone career start against King, in 2020, L. Thompson was a hard luck loser, 2-0, as she struck out 12 over seven innings in a complete-game effort. Between Thompson and former standout
Cartney Schoolcraft, the Mountain Lions only surrendered three runs to KU in the two-game set two years ago.
KING AT A GLANCE
King comes into Wednesday's matchup having won three of their last four games played. Senior pitcher/first baseman Carly Turner leads the team in batting average (.417), hits (20), runs scored (17), doubles (eight), and home runs (four). She also has driven in 13 RBI. Sophomore pitcher/infielder Marleigh Duncan sports a 4-2 record in the pitching circle. Duncan has a 4.72 ERA, striking out 42 batters, and giving up 18 earned runs in 34.1 innings pitched.
