ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team welcomes UVa.-Wise for a Wednesday doubleheader at Anderson Field with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

STELLAR STARTS
Sophomore pitchers
Eddie Blake and
Andrew Neff were strong in their starts over the weekend against BSC. Neff set the single-game program-record for strikeouts as he punched out 13 batters. The Fredericksburg, Virginia native's 13 strikeouts were tied for the most in the Mountain East Conference over the last two seasons. Neff also registered his first career nine-inning complete game as he tossed 140 pitches, the second highest of his career. For Blake, he earned the win over the weekend as he turned in a quality start of seven innings with three earned runs. Sunday marked the third time in seven career starts that Blake has pitched at least six innings with three or fewer earned runs. Freshman pitcher
Jacob Nester is expected to see the mound Wednesday. In his first career start, against Pitt-Johnstown, he recorded five strikeouts over six innings.
CARRY OVER
Sophomore infielder
Zack Saryeldin has started the season by recording five straight-game multi-hit games. The Weston, Florida native was 3-for-5 on Sunday at Bluefield State as he homered for the second time this season. Saryeldin is hitting .542 this season and going back to the start to the of the MEC Tournament last season he is hitting .479 in his last 10 games with two home run, four doubles and 16 RBI. Kyle Keenan have both hit safely in all five games this season. After not starting the season opener, freshman catcher
Joey Duffer has at least one hit in all four of his starts and is second on the team in batting average (.429).
HELLO, OLD FRIEND
The Mountain Lions hosts UVa.-Wise for the first time since the spring of 2019. The two former MEC opponents have played 24 times on the baseball diamond with each meeting coming as conference opponents from 2014-19. Anthony Stehlin was 7-for-13 against UVa.-Wise two years ago with three extra-base hits and three RBI. Former Concord catcher Brandon Costa (2013-14) is in his first year as the head coach at UVa.-Wise. Costa appeared in 75 games at Concord over two years including starting 49 of 54 games during the 2014 season. He was part of 74 wins as well as a conference championship in 2013.

Entering Wednesday, UVa.-Wise has lost five straight games, but haas faced tough competition in the South Atlantic Conference. Tyler Campbell paces the Cavaliers' offense with a .317 average to go with six home runs and 15 RBI. Hunter Meador is hitting .359 with five doubles among his 14 hits. Despite batting just .250 this season. Cole Harness has been a run producer for UVa.-Wise with 14 RBI. Nash Bingham has been steady out of the bullpen for the Cavaliers with seven strikeouts in seven innings of work over four appearances. Ryan Whitson has 11 strikeouts in 12 innings.
