POINTS PALOOZA
In what was head coach Kenny Osborne's 300th career victory at Concord Monday afternoon, the Mountain Lions put up a season-best 96 points in a 25-point win over Salem in a non-conference game. For the second straight game, a CU player recorded their first career 20-point game. On Saturday, sophomore guard Maddie Ratcliff netted 22 points at Alderson-Broaddus. On Monday, it was sophomore guard Kacie Shaffner's turn as she scored 20 points that included three made three-pointers and a 9-of-10 showing at the foul line. Junior forward Lauryn Avery collected her first career double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. And for the second time in the last two weeks, CU had five players in double figures as junior guard Jazz Blankenship (13 points), sophomore guard Jaisah Smith (12 points) and Ratcliff (10 points) all finished in double figures versus Salem. Monday marked the second time this season CU topped 90 points with both instances coming at home.

SPREADING THE WEALTH
Against Salem, the Maroon and Gray handed out 20 assists on 32 made field goals. It marked the sixth time this season that Concord has registered at least 20 assists in a game. However, no player had more than four assists with Blankenship's four leading the way. Ratcliff and Smith each had three assists. One of the previous six instances that CU notched 20 assists was in a 94-83 road loss to Fairmont State in December. The leader in assists for Concord in that particular game was fifth-year senior forward Riley Fitzwater handing out four assists. Concord is third in the conference with 15.6 assists per game, despite no one averaging more than 2.5 assists per game. Four of the six times that the Mountain Lions have had 20 assists this season, it has resulted in Concord shooting at least 45 percent from the field, including Monday's 50 percent showing.

BOARDING IT UP
In the win over Salem, the Mountain Lions owned a 48-35 advantage on the boards which marked the second-highest rebounding margin of the season for CU, only behind a +14 edge against Hawaii Pacific. Along with Avery registering a double-double, Smith ripped down a career-high nine boards as she just missed her first career double-double. Shaffner added six rebounds to go with her 20 points as the Elk Creek, Virginia native drew a game-high seven fouls. Heading into play this week, Concord is fifth in the MEC in rebounding margin (+3.0). Frostburg State is essentially even on the boards this season (-0.4) while Fairmont State is getting outrebounded by 11 per game in 2021-22. CU had a 38-32 edge in rebounding against Frostburg State earlier this season, and collected 43 rebounds to Fairmont State's 31.

REVENGE ON THE MIND
Wednesday night will be the fifth all-time meeting between Concord and Frostburg State with the home team winning all four previous encounters. CU holds a 3-1 advantage in the series with all of its win coming by at least 23 points at the Carter Center, including a 78-47 win in December. Frostburg State limited the Mountain Lions to 51 points in a February 2020 win in western Maryland. Senior guard Maggie Guynn was a bright spot two seasons on the road as she scored 16 points as CU was held to 26.7 percent shooting. In four career games versus FSU, Guynn is averaging 13.7 points per game. The Pearisburg, Virginia native starts the week needing six points to break into the top 15 in scoring in program history. Guynn has 1,129 career points.

HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
In recent meetings between Concord and Fairmont State, the home team has won three of the last four meetings with CU picking up a road win in February 2020 over the Fighting Falcons. With a shortened season last year, Saturday will be the first time Concord and FSU meet at the Carter Center. The Mountain Lions needed overtime to pick up an 81-74 victory. Fitzwater scored 23 points on 11-of-13 shooting to go with 14 rebounds while Guynn added 17 more points. In her last four games versus the Fighting Falcons, Fitzwater is averaging 21 points per game while shooting 85.1 percent (40-of-47). Earlier this season, Smith poured in a career-best 27 points in Concord's setback at Fairmont State. CU shot 48.5 percent against FSU, but was unable to overcome 18 turnovers.
