SECOND FIVE
Prior to the Notre Dame game last Saturday, the Mountain Lions implemented a new system where five players sub at the same time. It has paid dividends as the Concord bench has scored 42 and 48 points in the last two contests. CU's bench accounted for 48 of the 69 points scored against Fairmont State Tuesday. The 48 bench points were the most for the Maroon and Gray since February, also versus Fairmont State when it scored 52. A game after being reduced to a season-low nine minutes, junior guard
Jaisah Smith scored a season-best 18 points off the bench in 21 minutes. Freshman guard
Hannah Perdue netted a career-best eight points. Junior guard
Maddie Ratcliff added eight points, three assists and three steals in 15 minutes.
HARASSING DEFENSE
Concord caused 20 Fairmont State turnovers earlier in the week as it tied its season high with 12 steals. While Ratcliff recorded three steals, Smith came up with a career-high tying four steals. CU's leader in steals per game, junior guard
Nakaila Gray (1.7) came up with another two steals. The Mountain Lions are tied for fifth in the MEC in turnovers forced per game (19.0). However, Frostburg State is the most sure-handed team in the league as it is the only team in the MEC committing less than 15 turnovers per game (14.9). The Bobcats only committed 31 turnovers in two games versus CU last season.
KNOCK EM IN
As part of her 18 points, Smith marched to the foul line 11 times which was the most attempts at the foul line for any Concord player this year. The Bluefield, West Virginia native entered the game having only missed one free throw this season. Smith hit on 8-of-11 attempts, and still leads the MEC in free-throw percentage (88.6 / 31-of-35). After shooting 70 percent or better on free throws in three of the first four games of the season, the Mountain Lions have cooled off and haven't hit the 70-percent mark at the foul line in the last four contests. Ratcliff was 7-of-8 at the foul line in Concord's 78-47 win over Frostburg State last season. Senior guard
Ashton Funderburg headed to the line 11 times and hit 10 foul shots in a 72-66 loss for CU in February.
FRESHMEN FRONT RUNNERS
Saturday's matchup highlights two of the best freshmen in the MEC in Concord's forward
Abbie Smith and Frostburg State's Emilee Weakley. Smith and Weakley are first and second in the MEC in scoring and rebounding among freshmen. Weakley is the overall scoring leader in the league at 22.6 points per game. Smith is pouring in 10.5 points per game, third best for CU. Weakley's 9.4 rebounds per game are third in the MEC while Smith rips down 8.3 boards per contest, sixth in the conference. Smith has been more efficient in her offense as she has hit 54.5 percent of her shots (36-of-66), tops among Concord players. Weakley is shooting below 40 percent on the season.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
Saturday will be the sixth all-time meeting between Concord and Frostburg State with the home team winning the previous five. CU's three wins at the Carter Center have come by an average of 27 points while Frostburg State's two victories in the series have been by six points or less, including the six-point win in February. Ratcliff scored 17 points in the road defeat last year while Funderburg's effort at the foul line led to a career-best 16 points to go with six rebounds. Ratcliff netted a team-best 15 points in CU's win over the Bobcats last season.
POUND THE GLASS
For just the third time this season, Concord was outrebounded by Fairmont State, 50-41. However, the Maroon and Gray still maintained its plus-rebounding margin for the season as it ranks third in the MEC, 3.1. Meanwhile, FSU is the only team in the MEC that has a negative rebounding margin of greater than 10, -11.3. Besides Weakley, the only other Bobcat with more than five rebounds per game is Arianna Briggs-Hall (5.6). Graduate forward
Alexis Phillips ranks right behind A. Smith in the conference in rebounding with 8.0 boards per game. Concord is averaging 14.3 offensive rebounds per game, but Frostburg State has been solid as it limits teams to 10 offensive boards per contest.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Frostburg State started the season 2-2, but has lost five straight entering Saturday. Only one of those game, an 88-79 loss to West Virginia State, has been decided by less than 10 points. Aided by a team-best 20 three-pointers, Maggie Sharp is scoring 10.8 points per game. Rhiana Hall adds 10.2 points per game to go along with the 22 points that Weakley is posting on a game-by-game basis. First-year head coach Jenna Eckleberry returns to the MEC after a stint at Shepherd where she took the Rams to the NCAA Tournament twice, including a 25-win campaign last year.
