Concord Announces 2023 Schedule

ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University head baseball coach Devin Smith has released the program's 2023 schedule set to begin in mid-February.

Concord is slated for 50 games this spring with 32 coming against Mountain East Conference foes and 18 more versus non-conference teams.

Smith, a first-year head coach, makes his coaching debut as CU welcomes Pitt-Johnstown to Athens for a three-game set February 18-19. The beginning of the season sees the Mountain Lions play 13 games in a row at Anderson Field. Bluefield State opposes Concord February 22 for a doubleheader. The Maroon and Gray plays Ashland for the first time in program history February 25-26. March starts with Emory & Henry coming to Concord on the first day of the month. And a four-game series between CU and UVa.-Wise runs March 4-5.

After a March 8 game at Wingate, the Mountain Lions begin Mountain East Conference games at home against Frostburg State and Fairmont State March 18-19. The first road series of the year comes March 25-26 against Notre Dame and Alderson Broaddus. MEC North play wraps up April 1-2 against Wheeling and West Liberty at Anderson Field.

The 20-game MEC South slate opens April 7-8 versus Davis & Elkins at home.

Bluefield State makes a return trip to Concord for a doubleheader April 11.

The Mountain Lions travel to West Virginia Wesleyan April 15-16 before a four-game showdown on the road against West Virginia State April 22-23. The month closes by hosting last year's MEC South winner, Charleston, April 29-30.

Concord closes the regular season with a split four-game series against Glenville State. CU goes to Glenville State May 5 before hosting the Pioneers May 7.

SCHEDULE NOTES
-Concord and Pitt-Johnstown split a three-game series last year with the series featuring 78 runs. UPJ won the first game before the middle game was called due to darkness with the score tied at 11-11. CU won the final contest, 9-7.

-Smith and Bluefield State head coach Drew Bailey are former teammates at Concord from 2009-10. In addition to the four games at CU, the Mountain Lions travel to BSU April 4.

-The Maroon and Gray scored at least 13 runs in each game of a four-game sweep of West Virginia Wesleyan last season. Overall, Concord has won 12 straight over the Bobcats.

-CU is coming off a 33-19-1 season that included 20 conference wins—the most since winning 21 MEC games in 2019. The Mountain Lions outscored teams by 19 runs last season (250-231), but had a +50 run differential in the first three innings (109-59).
