WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team came up short in three sets against West Liberty Saturday morning in a Mountain East Conference match at the ASRC.
The set scores were 25-15, 25-16, 25-14.
Set 1
Trailing 11-6 in the game, sophomore outside hitter
Gracie Brackney and senior middle hitter
Amber Hall had back-to-back kills to get within 11-8. However, the Hilltoppers (14-8, 4-3 MEC) ran off four consecutive points to take control of the set.
Set 2
Concord (6-16, 0-7 MEC) fell behind 7-3 to open the game, but a kill from junior middle hitter
Kyndra Pilant and a WLU error trimmed the deficit in half. The Mountain Lions were unable to tie the set as the lead swelled to 14-7. CU got within 22-16, but the six-point margin was the closest for the remainder of the set.
Set 3
Trailing by a point, 7-6, the Mountain Lions watched West Liberty go a 6-0 run to grow the lead to 13-6. CU battled throughout the game, but was only able to get as close as six points in the set.

Sophomore outside hitter
Hannah Steele led the way with eight kills. Brackney went for six kills and nine digs. Pilant had a team-best 11 digs. Junior setter
Kristin Lough (10) and freshman right side/setter
Logan Newberry (13) combined for 23 assists.
CU returns home to face Fairmont State 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
